How good are their in house movements?

Are there or have there ever been any issues with their movements? How long have they been making the in house movements they are using now? Anyone actually experience any problems? if so has Panerai addressed them in a timely fashion and to your satisfaction?

No issues with my 233 Dan. I know it had problems with the pr indicator on the I serials but that was resolved with the J and K serials.

I think they've been making them since the I series on the 233, however others may chime in on that fact. Not 100% sure. In all, yes, there have been issues here an there, but overall quality is good. You'll see posts on here and p.com about some problems, but it's a small community and people will invariably complain more than giving an accolade.

For me, I owned a 312 for several years and found it ran fast and I had to send it in. Great watch overall though. PASC, in my opinion, took too long. I think I waited 5-months for the service and the wait time was attributed to a bridge that had to come from Switzerland. Not sure why that was the case on a regular production model?

Panerai is a stellar brand and I think they've done a great job, movements and all! Take the good with the bad on the service center....

Very solid in-house movements (no issues now--those were long in the past). You will not be sorry...

They had some issues at first, especially with some of the gears being to narrow, which caused some stoppage issues, that has been resolved. That was years ago and I have complete confidence in the new in house movements, but not as much as the time proven ETA base movements.

I've been looking into them more, trying to find out as much as I can. The more I'm learning the more I see the movements being similar to JLC designs. Look at the balance of the 190 (JLC) and looking at the balance on the 233 for example. Looks identical. Makes sense too seeing how they are Richemont owned! Looks like they are sharing/stealing watchmakers. And if you don't know, JLC's are well known for amazing movements.

Now, Panerai just needs more people to service them. Wait times are very bad I hear.

I was waiting for you to appear Mik.

That's right I forgot about the Richemont ownership and they're ability to share knowledge with JLC. Yes I am little familiar with JLC, I own a couple of their watches. The watchmakers watch.

I just thought I would create this post because I have heard some concerns voiced in regards with Panerai's in house movements. Sounds like they actually had some problems in the past but hopefully all of these issues are behind them.

My thought is around the wait times. I hear horror stories about how long it can take, but they fix it.

Many of the 233 issues I have hears about where actually dial issues. The "fang" was getting caught on the dial. This is tied to the release of the spring, so the watch would stop prematurely.

Interesting post guys.

Firstly - no issues with my 233 movement.

As for the "collaboration" between JLC and OP - makes sense to me too. I think there is a lot of "smoke and mirrors" and marketing happening - when in reality - these guys are a business, so what makes sense business wise - i.e. shared knowledge/manufacturing etc - probably happens - although not publicized.

My 233K runs about 3-4 second slow per day and pretty much in line with my daytona so I would vote with positive feedback on the 8 day in house movement. ETA are just robust and work horse like.. pretty accurate as well.
