Are worn out serial numbers a problem?

I've been looking at vintage models from the 50s lately and a couple of them have serial numbers that are barely visible -- you almost need a magnifying class to see the remnants.

What are people's views on buying such a watch? If the serial number becomes invisible, does the watch lose value? Is there somewhere else on these watches (reference 6422, 6694, etc.) that you'd find the serial numbers? Interested in thoughts from this group. Many thanks.

It's quite common for the case to be worn where the numbers are on older watches.. If the watch is authentic and original, the serial can be known by Rolex matching the serial number of it's movement with their build records..

It's not generally a value issue but may go to condition overall which does affect value..

Worn numbers certaily decrease the overall value, but It depends if you buy the watch as a thing of pleasure that gives you joy or as an investment (given that you got it at the right price and that you realise that most watches are a poor investment!). There are thousands of watches out there, my advice is to stick with the examples that have all of their markings and that are in good original condition.
