Tudor Snowflake.. worthwhile addition?
Hi, appreciate any feedback - I am looking to add to a small collection and whilst the SD looks good, I have an opportunity to get a Snowflake instead..is this a decent addition? I have a '75 5513 and my everyday watch an ExII. Any one have any warnings etc or advice would be appreciated.

Don't know much about Snowflakes but am sure any vintage watch that makes you happy is a worthwhile addition:)

I've only got one snowflake but thrilled to have it. A great addition to any vintage Oyster collection.

For me, a Tudor Sub gives a slight twist/differentness to the maybe too common Sub,
and the Snowflake hands enhances this even more. But take a moment to consider if you care that there are some who see Tudor as almost, but not quite a Rolex ... I don't think that way, but some do. |

I think they look great, can I ask what price they tend to go for in a nice average condition?

i have a 2005 SD and a DJ. i just bought a 1973 7021/0 snowflake. i just love this watch. i literally wear it to sleep. i have received more comments over the past month than i have in the 6 years i owned the SD.
you have to buy them very carefullly. there are many fakes out there and watches that are compiled with random tudor parts. the movements are cheaper to service than a rolex, but they run not as smooth as a rolex. as far as price, you can find them in pieces to be restored for 1500-1700. complete and cleaner 1800-2200. or clean no bracelet for 2200-2400. again, check the model numbers and get familiar with the dates in the serial, the caseback stamps, and check the long E's. many have bubbling dials like mine. i kinda like it as it looks vintage and feels correct. harry in montreal |

THese snowflakes are beautiful, down side is the market is flooded with copies and some are REALLY good. You need to know your Tudors to take on one of these beauties.

There was one posted on watchestobuy in the last 24hours and sold just as I emailed an inquiry. It literally sold within 18hours of being listed so I wonder who got it?
You can't be picky when they're posted... It's not like passing on a 1680 or 5513 for one reason or another until the next one pops-up. If you want a Snowflake have about $3600 ready, live on the classifieds, and hope it's in good condition. Otherwise, be very patient for the right one to come along and have those funds always at your immediate disposal. |

I can't say enough about mine. I have a late 70's Blue Snowflake. This is my favorite Sub. It is a very unique version of a vintage Sub, at a great price point.
My question for the experts is, how much inventory is really out there with these, and what is the prediction for prices down the road? I know most would agree, that a watch is most often not an investment; could this not be the case here? |

i dont know about the 3600, i see a fixer upper on ebay once every 2 months sell for about 2k.
i would recommend buying one that needs some work, but you know has a legit case, dial and bezel. you have to be VERY careful with buying these. they are often hacked up or incorrect. fixing them is cheaper than their rolex counterpart at an AD. i think this is a huge score iwth these models. harry |

There is a guy out of Hawaii that posts on TRF that has had some snowflakes; head only and he was in the 2400-2600 range recently. if its running well, and the dial is clean, you cant beat that.
i would not drop 3600 on one. even if you spend 2500 on a head, then a good used folded bracelet should set you back only 500-600. |

I have a Snowflake and no other subs. the Snowflake is unique. also, I'm hard pressed to believe that the Rolex movement of the Snowflake vintage is superior. except for a 1675 Pepsi, I sold all of my vintage sport Rolex after I found the Snowflake. call me crazy,if you want, but the Snowflake just has so much panache compared to any other sub, IMHO.
