What is the value of a nice 5508?
I have a 5508 I purchased new in 1966. How does one find someone to give a realistic price in order to post it for sale? Or is it better to contact a vintage Rolex dealer? I have photo's but see no way to attach them.

HI Rob - I'd love to see pictures...
Your better off uploading your photo's to 'Photobucket' and then inserting them via the direct link... I'm sure there are plenty topics/sticky's.. on here that you can read for guidence on uploading pictures... |

Do you have the box, papers, etc? It would affect the price.

No papers, no box, just the watch. Bought it when I was in the Air Force and that was many moves ago with a side trip to Viet Nam.

The watch is original except for the crystal which was replaced by Rolex. It has NOT been relumed, The bracelet has been repaired. When I had it serviced several years ago, he thought he was doing me a favor and polished it.

It sure looks like a relume. If not, the lume looks a little different.....especially on the 12 O'clock marker. Otherwise, looks quite nice.

i think you are going to get a lot of folks dissecting the non-original parts to derive a value. its worth quite a bit. i would just put it in a proper auction and let it run its course. the dial looks to be touched-up at some point to make it glow int he dark. i dont know about that insert ring with the newish looking pearl. also the crown has been replaced. all this factrors detract from an all-original piece; which is what collectors truly want. you may need to open it up to learn more about it as well. its a nice watch. you should keep it as a family heirloom especially if you served with it in the war. harry

I like this watch but I have no idea of the "right" price.
Vintage with all the fakes around have become off limits As is..? $8,000.- anymore than that and you are entering "terra incognita" |

Not sure but if were to use Nikos(greekbum) easy valuation method, I would see what the individual parts would cost like the case, bracelet, dial, movement, etc. and then ask for a slight premium because they all belong to the same watch. Also if the dial is relumed that would affect the cost of the dial quite a bit so you need to make sure if it has never had a relume before. A watch with a never relumed dial would fetch you the market price.

Do you want to sell it to a dealer and get cash on the spot and be done with it in a few minutes? Do you want to try and retail it yourself? An auction or a higher price than you want with or best offers may be your best option as you do not have a price in mind and it may take a number you like to sell? Do you want to put it on consignment with a vintage dealer for 25-30% as to try and realize a higher price? Quote:

Sorry Nikos, meant that previous evaluation of the other watch by you in a good way in helping him judge the right price if is relumed . Didn't mean is a parts watch but if the dial has had a relume as many seem to infer, the sum of parts+ a premium because parts are all original to the watch would in my opinion help him to arrive at the right price or rightly put, a minimum price so that he doesn't get taken for a ride because of the dial. Offcourse if the dial has not been relumed, then he would be looking at the market price for the watch. That being said, finding the price of the individual items would require a bit of research on his part on the various forums though is an "easy" task for the experts, so you are right on that account and I take back that I said "easy" method:).
