New Blackberry 9930 Bold (Verizon)
Well after waiting 6 months for the 9930, I finally received mine. I don't need a Droid or iPhone (have a Mac & iPad for apps), need this for phone calls, text and email only. I have been a Blackberry user since their first pager looking model (remember that one).
This model is a HUGE improvement and the best Blackberry yet. VERY slim, light, fast and tough screen. I am one those people who needs a physical keyboard to type, and the larger buttons are nice. Since there is now a touch screen, one can use the roller ball or screen, which is nice. Nice sharp large screen. There are a few differences in menu execution, but like anything takes a little getting use to. For those non-iPhone people, this is a great choice. Old BB vs 9930 on right. Slim and light. |

Glad you like it!
I for one, gave up on RIM for now. Their OS is years behind BUT... if like you said, all you need is good email integration and a solid keyboard, it is a great phone to have. Gave one to my mom on Sunday since all she wants is a keyboard and personal email.

Good luck. Rim will be extinct in about 90 days.

Nothing synchronized better than Blackberry which is important for the Corporate World. I don't need apps, I need reliable phone service, E-Mail, Calendar, and Address Book. Yeah, I browse the web now and again, but if I couldn't, it wouldn't be a deal breaker. |

And why do you think that?
For business RIM is the best Phone you can use. 1. Best in the world security, so much so its the only phone most governments in the world will use. 2. The best phone for work email. 3. The BBM "app" is free and allows you to communicate with your friends for free. If your looking for a more childish phone for bird flying games get an iphone.

Google talk works as well as the BB messenger
BB is so slow and unresponsive Google Gmail, when set up as an IMAP account is fantastic. I agree BB security is top notch. Most of us do not need that but governments do. I was a fan for years. I gave it up 3 months ago for an Android, Verizon Thunderbolt and have never looked back. BB just cannot keep up. They still have a market though. But, it is rapidly shrinking. Their future is not bright. |

Certainly, 1 and 2 were once true. That has been quite some time ago. Routing every message through Canada isn't considered as secure as it once was. Certainly, #2 is long-ago not true, unless you are looking for another platform (BES) to support that no other solution requires. #3 is decreasingly useful every day as the users drain off and only the hard-core remain. " a majority of people will come back to BB when they have tried the rest, and i'm talking about a phone that is mainly used for business." I can think of two CEOs that are betting their jobs on this. Each failed product launch (every RIM product launch since at least 2009) brings this to mind: Business School Student: What do you say to a customer who wants to leave you for the convenience and savings of a nationwide chain? |

Glad you're happy with it!
I've been using Blackberries for quite a few years too and I'm about to throw in the towel to go for an iPhone. Had waited for this model as well which I hear T-Mobile will launch next week but I'm just over it. Really hoping they get the iPhone 5 or I'll have to jump ship after 9 years! I'm ready for a new OS for sure and based on my falling in love with my iPad 2, I think iOS has me! |

Mine just arrived today, and it's charging now.
I'm currently using the older Bold from Verizon, the 9650. Before even using it, I can see that the keys are larger and the phone's footprint is a bit larger, but it's definitely thinner. Not sure yet about the new O/S...I generally wait for the bugs to get worked out before I jump in, but what the hell, if I don't like it, I'll pass it along to someone else in the company. I'm not big on touch-screens, so this is the best of both worlds, touch when you want it, and keys when you don't. We'll see how I feel in a day or two. |

I am seriously debating on purchasing this phone. Played with it, loved it but with the new QNX or so called BB Colt one rolling around either before the end of the year or early next year I just cant fathom getting this then drooling over the QNX or BB Colt.
Then again, with mobile phones constantly getting outdated the day you purchase yours. I might as well suck it up hand over the credit card and stop bitching. Anyway enough with my rant. Great, GREAT phone. The keyboard is amazing, the full touch screen makes it so much easier now to navigate through the phone. |

I am a firm believer that unless you need a physical keyboard like you stated there is no reason not to have an iPhone. I don't even like mine that much it is just so much better than everything out there.
What do you use your iPad for usually? How do you get along with typing on that? Easier than the iPhone because of the larger screen or do you not compose many emails on it? |

RIMM is a great company with terrible management. I'd like to see a change there before they ruin a good company. My 2 cents...

I use a 9950 right now and have been very interested in what RIM is going to come up with in the next year to help them stay afloat.
I admit that I'm pretty impressed with iPhones and Androids, but frankly, I don't use all those electronic pyrotechnics. I need a good phone that will also access the web on occasion. The Blackberry is an excellent phone and that's unequivocal. The weakness of mine is that the web is very difficult to navigate, except for those sites that are optimized for BB, which isn't too many. I'm really hoping that RIM can fix that problem before I'm eligible for a new phone next year. Can you give us a report on that when you're able?

Look up the blackberry colt. Its coming out either the end of this year or early next year. Its going to utilize BB's new and upcoming OS called QNX, which is supposed to utilize android apps and be seamless with multitasking. Try out the Playbook, it utilizes QNX and its pretty cool. If I were you Id wait out for the Colt.

I was a HUGE BB supporter for years, but I just got to the point where I wanted something more. And now I'm a recent Droid convert (4G )
Your new device looks awesome, and for what you plan on using it for, I'm sure it will far exceed your expectations. |

I always find it interesting when folks quote fictional characters to make a case.
Everyone knows that RIM is playing catch-up ball and that the crowd is following the iPhone and Androids, but no one actually knows what RIM is up to. Sure, they might go bust, but it's a little too soon to be writing the obit.
