Where do they go?

I was curious if anyone knows, but if someone trades in an older Rolex to an AD then where does that trade in go?

It goes into their estate collection for resale after they perform a service on the watch.

After all they just paid money for that watch and they are looking to make some more money.

Granted they just paid you a little less than you could have sold it somewhere else for, but heck they are in business to make money.

The question is what level of service do they perform? I doubt a full disassembly, cleaning, and lubrication.

If I bought a pre-owned from an AD without a Rolex certified watchmaker and shop I send it to a RSC.

Just my opinion!

agree with this as well...

additionally if the AD is a chain (T) it goes to a central office (where service is done) and then gets redistributed to the store that would be best served.
so although it is taken in at a particular AD it will probably next show itself in a different shop within the chain.

I was just wondering because I'm interested in getting into the "grey market" business as a hobby and I just wanted to know how things worked with AD's.

Thanks

My advice would be to put a want to buy add on Craigslist, something along the lines of fast ca$h for Rolex, have plenty of cash & make low imediate cash offers... not ridiculously low mind you... I think you may just snag a few...

They go to Rolex heaven.... Where brokens ones are magically repaired.... old ones find new strength and vigor..... Oils are changed regularly and services completed on schedule.... and they all keep perfect time... ticking away and playing in the huge AD display cases..... All of them watching the door... and waiting... waiting for that special moment when they turn their dial towards the entrance... their ticking speeds up... their hands start to spin wildly... and they see their owner walk through.... Reunited once again.

as stated before, most dealers have estate buyers who they sell the watch to. this way, the AD sells a new watch, and the estate buyer gets a new watch for their inventory usually at a good price.
