Opinions on Watch Shopping in Budapest

I will be in Budapest in about 3 weeks, any opinions on watch shopping? Vintage or pre-owned stores?

In budapest, I would say keep your Rolex out of sight! That is my opinion of course, however, I could be wrong.

Would not worry much.

I have been to Budapest at least 15 times and I have never had any kind of issues there.
Like most cities on our planet, I am sure that neighborhoods exist in Budapest where you might be less than safe. Just don't go there. :-)

Stick around the Danube, visit the casinos on Margaret island, see the parliament and the castle. There are lots of shops around there.

If you have time, take the Metro under the Danube. It is a wicked escalator ride.

funny remark about the escalator. have other foreign friends also surprised by that.

if you need anything just drop me a pm. would be glad to help.
watches are pretty expensive here due to the 25% vat. the rolex ad is at vörösmarty square and you can't really miss it as it is possibly the best location in the whole town.
they have pretty solid stock even of watches that are hard to find elsewhere but as mentioned prices are not the best you can get.

walther chronometrie is a well-known second hand watch shop but i really doubt that you find anything really interesting. however it is just 2 minutes walk from the rolex store so it is worth a visit and they are both in a very tourist frequented zone.
the map shows both places.

if you want i can recommend you some faboulus restaurants and places that are a bit off the beaten track and might be worth a visit.

Prices are higher but you can buy TAX FREE-I assume you live in the US based on yr avatar-so the VAT isn t something you should worry about, you can barganing with the ladies at the AD but it has to be approved by the boss.there s only one AD in the town-actually in the country-but there are some other fine stores carrying other brands -AP ,Hublot ,FM,etc.-,all located in the city centre so it s very easy to reach on foot.
About vintage , well Hungary was an occupied territory by the russians as you might know and high end watches were not on sale until the recent past so most you can find are imported from europe or from the usa, additionaly some of them are "built vintage" if you understand what i mean.I can recommend Walther chronometrie if you want to look some preloved pieces but those won t be cheap either.

Have a great time and if you take my advice look at the girls and enjoy the atmosphere , we are much better in that than watches

cheers
