My adult Son has always admired the few rolex watches that I've owned over the years and has come to appreciate a quality watch. Unfortunately, because of the economic situation in the country he hasn't been able to afford a Rolex of his own. Back in 2005, he lost a great position he held for eight years due to downsizing. He's moved to Chicago and Dallas for very good jobs that were unfortunately then cut because of economic reasons. He recently returned to Ohio where he's worked short term positions that were the only employment available. Thankfully, about three weeks ago he landed a great position with decent pay, good hours and a very nice benefits package. However, he now has to make up for a lot of lost time and certainly won't be in any position to purchase a Rolex any time soon.
He'll be turning 40 and I though it would be a nice jesture to part with my Sub C and let him enjoy the ownership of a Rolex watch. I hope in some small way this will make up for some of the disapointment he's suffered due to the economy. Its also a reward for not giving up on himself and even though sometimes failing, getting back up and trying again and again. And yeah, just beacuse I love my Son. That too.

Jerry, that's a wonderful thing to do.....my son isn't as old (he'll be 20 next month) but he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last year and at round about the same time one of his oldest friends died very young......I had a Rolex that was always destined for his wrist....it was specially wrapped for Christmas morning, I felt the time was right......he'd had a kick in the teeth of life and had to grow up quick and take responsibility as well as cope with the loss of a friend.....he literally could not speak for five minutes or so.....he never wore a watch before but has not taken the watch I gave him from his wrist since Christmas......

It will mean so much to your son....way more than you think it will mean...trust me....again, it's a wonderful think you are doing...hats off to you sir!!!

Thanks to all who replied. Your sincerity is greatly appreciated. I gave my Son the watch and the accessories, etc this afternoon and he was floored. I've only had the Sub C since April so he thought it would be many, many years before he would acquire it. We had a great moment together and I'm glad I decided to give it to him now rather than later. This way he can enjoy it while he's still relatively young and I can witness that enjoyment.

Great gesture, man. When I begin my next life, my son will have my watch collection. it has my watches, and also my dad's, my granddad's, and my great-great granddad's pocket watch from the 1900s.

Great choice. Sometimes it actually means much more to you as a gift from someone you really love than if you had to work for the watch yourself. I'm sure he will wear it very proudly and think of you everytime he puts it on. Great story.
