Interesting Comments... Are Rolex too old?

I am really amused that several people commented about how old my Pepsi looks compared to the newer range of maxi Rolexes and modern Panerai designs:

Come on! It's only a 5-yr old Pepsi!
And it has characters, mind you

Have really Rolex pampered us so much with the maxi dial and case???
Perhaps only hardcore Rolex fans are happy with our beat-up classic pieces

What's your thought on this?

X2 Dan and the maxi dial is not something new many vintage Rolex had maxi dials before the introduction of the bling gold surrounds.

Exactly. If anything, the new maxi dial is RETRO. It is true that the ceramics are shinier....whether that makes them more "modern" is debateable.

I think its because most people dont know Rolexes, and are comparing your Pepsi to the last ad they saw which features a Rolex with a somewhat different case and maxi dial.

I also think that the "older" watches are kinda outdated, compared to the newer ones.... BUT....that's what makes the older ones CLASSICS...which we love soooooo much

The difference is not that big, IMO.. a perfect evolution

I'm certainly not ready to retire either one of these. How exactly is it that they look to outdated or tired again? If anybody has any which you feel are just plain too old, please just send them my way.

Isn't that the beauty of Rolex? A brand new one looks dated, in other words, timeless and classic.

I think it's the maxi dial. I think that really makes the new watches stand out. Also the pepsi is a classic design so it has the look of an older watch IMO. Great watch anyway. I think that will be my next.

I have a feeling that in ten years time the pepsi GMT isn't the model that will look outdated.

Simple classic lines, what makes a Rolex so beautiful.
I really do believe most people (the avg Joe) don't really know what a Rolex watch look like...almost all my friends don't know.

Is Rolex too old? Noooooo! Lol
Classic and timeless!

I'm sure I will get flamed or banned for saying this but to me the pepsi screams 70's (or early 80's maybe) in terms of style. There were a ton of replicas or other designs back then that were patterned off of it. Don't see them so much any more.
(my brother had a seiko that looked like a cross between the pepsi and a moonwatch from the mid 70's. This is the type of thing I'm picturing).

It's a specialist group of acquaintances if they can even tell the difference between current and previous models.

Panerai I suspect is a virtually unknown brand to most people out with those with an interest in watches therefore I find it difficult to accept the comments re your Pepsi as representative.

Only people who know about rolexes will be able to spot a GMT,SUB,DATEJUST & know what models they are, the average person will not even know a rolex from a timex.

Your watch is gorgeous. The maxi dials are attractive but sometimes when I wear a watch with the old style dial I feel it's a bit more refined in its understatedness, and doesn't look like it's trying too hard.
