Rolex Daytona as Graduation Gift to Myself

I currently own a Rolex Sea-dweller, it was "sort of" my undergraduate graduation gift to myself. "Sort of" because I was only able to purchase it a year after my graduation. It has been 6 years since then and I am working on my M.S. in Engineering Management, which is fully paid by my company. I am planning to purchase a Rolex Daytona, my expected graduation date is May 2013 and I just placed my name in the waiting list of a dealer. Hopefully I can wear it to my commencement

Anybody have experience with Daytona waitlist? I have read many post about them and it all seems like luck or some sort of networking game. Do the dealers actually call people on the waitlist? If so, how long did it take? I still have a whole year till I officially need it.

What is the MSRP for now?

I know you guys love photos, so here are ones from my collect.
The Sea-dweller is mine and the Explorer II is my wife's.

Daytona would be a perfect compliment to your collection.
And why be on a waiting list when you got great sellers here on TRF

It amazes me how the price went up. I bought my SS Daytona in 2002 and it was just over $6k then......

There may still be some dealers where the demand is such that you need to be on a waiting list. However if you really want one now they can be found and you don't have to be on any waiting list. If you must buy through an AD just call around, they can be found.

I plan to call all the ADs in the USA when I have the funds ready. It is hard to turn away from cash. I should have enough to when I do my tax refund.

It all depends, I was at an AD the other day and they asked me if I wanted a black face Daytona, it was sitting in the safe in the back.

Just as you said, have the cash ready and just call around to different AD's to find one. They will be out there. I found mine in about 4 hours and just hit three stores in the same mall.

I see you are in Beverly Hills area? Drive down the 405 to south coast, that place for sure might have one ready to buy for you walking in the door.

Congrats on your grad degree..Unlike a Daytona or any watch, that can never be taken away from you or flipped.

Congrats on your degree. On the 'wait list', my personal experience has been that this is more a myth and a 'blurry zone' than reality. If you want one; our trusted sellers here can get you one. Also, if you have a good relationship with your AD, the so called 'wait list' vanishes.

When I made up my mind, I made 1 call. That's it. Done. Yes, through my AD.

Well done!. Its a buyers market, dont fall into the AD waiting list balony, money talks, bull**** walks. Take your business elsewhere, there are lots of daytonas on the market.

+1
You shouldn't have a problem finding a Daytona. Congrats on the baby.

Don't mean to change the subject... But is the SD box bigger?
