47MM Panerais..........Really????

Let me start off by saying that Panerai is my favorite brand by far and I love virtually all the different designs and styles they make however, when I often see pics of the 47MM watches on other members wrists, I have to be honest...........on many of these people, the watch just looks plain silly, sometimes as ridiculous looking as the clock Flavor Flav wears around his neck. By the same token, these 47MM watches look great on bigger guys but for the average guy, I just don't see it. I wish that Panerai would make some of these fantastic looking 47MM styles in 44MM so the average guy could wear them and not be so out of proportion.............thoughts?????

My watches seem to be getting bigger every year, But 47mm is big.

I did try some U-Boat watches on the weekend that where at 47mm or more.

You haven't heard, Man? 47mm is the new 44mm. What sized wrists do you have? Mine are 7.25" and I've easily worn a BP without any issue. Personally can't wait to strap on my new 47mm PAM....hopefully sooner than later.

I've had 2 47mm ( the 232 & 249).
Both are gone now as I just never wore them enough. Partially was they were just too big. My wrist is about 7.25".
Gone back to a 42mm Rad as my daily beater now.

Yes some guys with below averag wrists have to have the 47 mm SEs because of it's true historic size and look silly. But 47 is the true Panerai size and most people can pull it off very well depending on wrist shape, helps to have a flat top wrist

i have a 7 inch wrist, and a big pilot(46mm) fits me fine. i tried on a 305 and it seemed a bit too big. if they made a 47mm in a standard luminor case(not 1950) my guess is it wouldnt be too bad.

It is nice to see Panerai making watches like they used to in the 50's - with the vintage size 47mm!! Back to their roots and tradition- pure Panerai DNA!! I am happy that I too have a big wrist!!

I like big watches and my wrist size is only 6-3/4". At 40 I only buy & wear what I like (as opposed to what looks good or reasonable) -- and the only other person whose opinion matters anymore is my wife's...

Imho, as a luxury good, a high-end watch is much more a fashion statement than a device to tell time. And as far as fashion goes... have you seen Lady Gaga recently?

Anyways... Did I mention I like big (as in 60mm BIG) watches...? (feel free to laugh... I really don't mind/care )

That's great:..........quite frankly, from some of the pics I've seen in the past of 47MM watches on some average size guys, this proportion isn't far off. I understand the history, the DNA, the fantastic look of some of these watches.........that's not really what I'm getting at. Anyway, as some others have said, to each his own and at the end of the day, the only person it should matter to is you.

Hi, new guy here. I just got a Pan 48 (40mm) and I'm glad I didn't go bigger. Aesthetically the proportions seem good for my 6 3/4 wrist. In fact I was thinking about a 36mm datejust (that may be my next). Wonder if it's the younger guys who like the XL watches? (I'm 42).

I had 232 and I just let it go.
My wrist(6.2) can't handle 47mm watch but i'm still in the line for 372.
Pure DNA is in PAM 47mm and I can't live without these.

For me, it was mostly how the watch rested on my hand. The crown would rub the back of my hand & I would get a calous there. I haven't tried a 47mm Luminor though.
I am happy with my reduced collection.
It's been a horribly busy spring, summer & fall ( so far) at work, so no time to post much.

I owned a 232 for a short while as I was lucky enough to get one at MRSP.

Even though it was a 47mm watch, the Radiomir case allowed it to look balanced enough on my 7.75" wrist.

I tried on the 232 47mm Rad yesterday, and frankly, even with my puny 6.25 inch wrists I don't think it looked ridiculous. Surprisingly, it seemed to fit better than my 44mm 233.

The 47mm Rads actually fit very well surprisingly for its size. At first you would think it would be way too ridiculous but b/c of its sleeker profile, it's not bad!! I had one before and I have small wrists as well but it wore very well. Would highly recommend it.
