Is this Hamilton 950 a good deal?
I had posted previously that I am looking for a pocket watch for my son as a special gift, heirloom type. He already purchased a Rolex wristwatch for himself and I wanted to get him something he can keep, even though he may not wear it.
So.. I was doing some investigating online and had a few responses to my previous post which were very helpful. But I am finding it difficult to find values. I was hoping someone or several of you may have an opinion about this watch I visited today. I do not have any pics, sorry. It is a Hamilton 950 with a Montgomery dial, 10K white gold filled, 23 Jewel, 6 position, gold center wheel, Railroad grade with the lever set. The watch dealer has been in business for at least 19 years and says the crystal, hands and parts are original, including the back case. It does run. He is offering it to me for $1300 and says it should appraise for $1500+ Any info, closed sales or opinions are very much appreciated. Thanks, RAF |

I was not able to get pics today. The serial numbers are 846859 on the mechanicals and 9622210 from inside the back case. I did see a hairline shadowy 'crack' just below the 3 and a small one in the 12. But those are only noticable if you really look close. Any info is helpful. Thanks.

This one sold for $1200 on Ebay so you're not that far away from street price it seems.

Thank you very much for the pic and price. I do not seem to be very proficient in finding information. Appreciate it.

I don't think that we can give valuations here, and I'm not sure how far that extends.
If the case truly is 10K all the way through, $1300 is probably about the melt value and so I'd consider that decent. |
