Dent in your car?

[Dilemma]

Dent your car, you fix it correct? Ding your Rolex, you leave it because "It adds character"

So when some 16 year old girl blows a stop sign because she is texting her friends and caves in your rear quarter panel, leave it? The character argument?

Apples and oranges, but I do let little dings go on my car, especially after the first five years or so.

I've got too many important issues to worry about than trying to keep smooth shiny surfaces where they are bound to be a frequent target of the stupid, the incompetent, the criminal, and normal wear and tear.

The only wat to keep dings out/off of your car is not drive it....
The only way to keep dings/scratches off your Rolex is dont wear it!

Why not? There have been several threads of late regarding scratched watches and whether to repair them, and bezel ding emergencies.

I would get it fixed. cars with dents don't look cool, unlike watches with dents.

I'd fix a car dent, just like I'd fix a broken watch crystal..

But, my car gets a few windshield chips, rock nicks on the hood and headlights, some road rash from the tires kicking up past the fender-wells, fingernail scratches at the door handles, wear on the gas pedal/brake pedal and on the carpet.... etc.

.... I don't run out and replace all those things for a little normal wear and tear..

Subjective, I know, but I don't think they're comparable: whatever car I have will always eventually be traded in for a new one, and a serious dent could get worse with rust if not repaired. My Rolexes I'll keep for good. Each to his own, though.

My land rovers and range rovers are full of dents and scratches. It suits them.

For me it's a question of visibility and nothing to do with adding "character''.

If the car dents are not readily visible and so don't bother me, I'll leave them alone. So like Tools, I've got lots of small nicks and scratches all over the body of my car.

Same thing with watches - cracked the pearl on my Deepsea a few months ago but I've not had it fixed because it can't be seen unless you really try. But if I broke the crystal then yes for sure I'd get it replaced ASAP.

I like a few Dents and scratches in my truck it makes it look like I use it for what it was made for, same with my watches!

The difference is if you dent or badly scratch your Rolex, the way you get it out is by grinding down the metal around it until its level and polishing it back up.

If you ding your car badly, you buy a $150 pattern part panel from a chinese sweatshop, have it welded in and painted, then throw the old one away.

Even on a late model German car, a whole new panel is cheap to replace compared to replacing a Rolex watch case.

Wrong. I just leave it like that. Plenty of dings in my 6 years old Toyota. Another couple of years and I'll get a new one. The heck with that,it's just a damn car. About my Rolex if it gets banged I'm not bothered at all,but if that happen to one of my Gshocks it drive me nuts,I can't find a valid explanation about this...

Scratches and dings in a Rolex are just temporary; they will be buffed out at the next servicing.

A dent should be fixed if you can afford it.
