some details
After years of waiting, speculating, chasing rumors and analyzing spy photos the wait is over. BMW is officially releasing the next generation 3 series sedan, chassis code F30 this Friday, October 14th 2011. On Friday we will have the official specifications including weight, height, width, length, and engine offerings. We're expecting a modest increase in size over the outgoing E90 3 series sedan, with the weight staying the same or perhaps dropping a little with increased use of plastics, aluminum and high tech carbon reenforced plastics. The engine choices will likely be variants of the N20 for the 328i and the N55 for the 335i. We're also expecting xDrive all wheel drive to be offered from the get go. The F31 3 series touring/wagon will follow after, but will it come to the US? About a year and a half from now we should start to get details on the F32 3 series coupe and then another 6 months later the F33 3 series convertible details will be release. Bimmerfest.com will be here with coverage of all the release details as they happen. Spy photo gallery of the BMW F30 3 series exposed for the first time We will know in just 4 long days what the future 3 series sedan F30 holds for us all. Stay tuned to Bimmerfest.com for all the details and analysis on what the next 3 series means to you. |

The 3 series got bigger and bigger over the years and has lost its way. From a light weight, good handling car with a sweet engine that was a hit with drivers who appreciated the vehicle who knew their way around performance cars and turned it into a mid sized overstuffed transporter of the masses.
The 1 series filled the void that the larger 3 left wide open. Now they're making it even bigger. With the 1 filling the sportier, smaller car nitche I guess they figured to up the size. I wouldnt consider it. I would jump to the 5 in that case. |

I went with the 135i. It also has the N54 tt engine. I like the fact that it rides on a shorter wheel base, weighs in 175lbs lighter and comes with Brembo 6 piston brakes. Its a little quicker and easier to toss in the twisties. The front seating area is the same(or nearly) as the 335 but the rear seating is a little tigher as is the trunk. I like the sportier feel of the 1 but if I needed larger rear seating for passengers the 335i would have been my choice. I like them both. the engine is flat out fantastic. Internationl Engine of the Year fives years running. |

Beautiful car!!! I like it more than the E90. The design philosophy is the same as the current 5 series. I am also anticipating the coupe.

I think it is a good looking car. I just got rid of my e90 for an X5 for size reasons but I absolutely loved driving a 3 series. Nothing quite like it. One thing about the interior, it looks just like a redo of the current e90 interior, the nav screen looks like an after thought as do the idrive center console and left passenger knee rest. They don't look sweeping and intergrated enough. Just my opinion.
