Will I be elated or disappointed with the new ExpII 42mm?

Hi,
Last Thursday, I had the call from my AD to say that my new black 42mm ExpII had arrived. Due to difficult family circumstances, I will not be able to go for a viewing until this Friday.
All of my other Rolex are Sports models with the black or coloured rotating bezel. I have nothing else with the silver bezel.
So in comparison to the old Exp II (which never really inspired me) and my collection of divers and flighers will I be over or under whelmed when I see the new watch.

I also ordered the Sub ND and that is waiting for me too. I have tried to buy this watch a few times but have always shied away from the flimsy bracelet. However, I really like the face.

So will I buy both but if it is only one watch, which do you think it will be?

Peter

The old EXII really inspired me and was a long time my number one Rolex.
The new EXII-tank I only like in black.

I reckon you'll like the new Exp42 too...what is there not to like? I picked mine (black dial) up last week and it's hardly left my wrist since. Feels real comfy on the wrist and just looks very rugged! Orange hand looks great against the matt black dial and the floating hour and minute hands just look cool.

I was neve a fan of the old EXP II but the new model is quite an improvement.

To the OP I can only say that it's all just a matter of personal taste (my 216570's my favourite Rolex) but ......

Dan, Mike Jaye quietly has one of the best Rolex collections around! I recall seeking his advice when I was looking to acquire my 116718. He is super sharp and has a high IQ in quality timepieces!

I think you will buy the SUBy and will find the E42 a dissappointment b/c the bezel is not black...

I recommend to try the white dial 216570 also. You may be surprised.

I do not think that they have the white dial. If I were to have bought one of the old Exp II watches it would have been the black face.

The only white dial that I would definitely buy over the black is an SS Daytona.
A tricky day tomorrow with a funeral and then my conscience will be clear to do a bit of watch shopping on Friday!!

All the best Peter. Hope you will feel better by the time you get to your AD on Friday.

I also have tried many times to buy the previous version 40mm EXPII in white, simply because I have more black dial watches than white. That's why I got the white 116520 and now the white 216570.

I guess my excuse is "to balance the white dial Rolex with the black dial Rolex watches"... Well, that's my excuse to the "boss" anyway

Everyone has their own taste (atleast they should), I personally think it is one of the best looking watches they have ever produced.

I can't predict or read your mind, sorry my crystal ball is not working today.

However, I would say the EXII42 is a brilliant new model that was literally love at first sight for me.

I will be at a high end watch soiree at the end of November which the Canadian Rolex rep will be attending. At this time I hope to see the new EXPII in the flesh so I can make up my mind about the white vs. black dial. I like the pictures I see with the black dial which makes the minute and hour hands appear to be floating.
