Color can be explained by science, just like the movement of a Rolex.
The theory of colors tells us that there are complimentary colors. These are pairs of colors, diametrically opposite on a color circle.

The models that utilize these complimentary colors are the 116618 / 16618. One can argue the two-tone LB models belong in this category too but to me they do not have the same effect as the full gold models.

Blue and yellow gold are a strange but perfect match. This combination has been used for many years by some of the most powerful, and sophisticated people on the planet.
In the Renaissance time period this combination influenced Vincent van Gogh in his painting The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum.
The funerary mask of King Tutankhamun from Egypt is clearly influenced by complimentary colors.

Anyone have a couple of 16618 / 116618 wrist shots?

Fascinating stuff! My preference is for the older shade, ie the one on the left, which incidentally is one of my favourite Rolexes! Thanks for posting!

Rolex has made color changes in the new blue ceramic sub. The early versions were smurf blue, current blue is much darker.
