Rolex to stop making Yacht-Master, supposedly
I went into an AD yesterday wearing my YM and one of the sales people informed me that the value of the watch was going to skyrocket due to the fact that Rolex was discontinuing the YM. Has any one else heard the same thing?

That would be really sad if it were the case, but since I already have one I guess I wouldn't mind too much :)
The piece is interesting because as far as popularity among Rolex consumers, it's very low on the pole - but the minority that do like it, seem to like it as one of their favorites. |

And had you been wearing the DEEPSEA, the AD would have told you that the DEEPSEA is about to be discontinued
and if it is true about the YM, I don't think too many of us here would care. There would be more turmoil if the 14060M was leaving than the YM. |

No and I doubt very much that even if it was discontinued (which in itself is unlikely) that the value would "skyrocket''.

I think a lot of people would care. Pretty close minded statement. I highly doubt the YM is going to be discontinued but who knows. Rolex wouldn't go around announcing this to ads anyway.

Humvee: what angle was the AD trying to take? It wasn't like I was trying to buy one. Why would he lie?

I'm assuming he wasn't trying that angle though. It's probably something he heard and was relaying. Hopefully some of the experts on the board can confirm whether this is true or not. |

I hope not, I like the YM a lot and would own one someday if I came across the right watch for the right price

Agreed. People still have money to spend, they just want to spend it on something worthwhile. The $500-$3000 market has been hit the hardest, our best sellers are Tissot, Omega and Rolex right now

Not sure what his angle could possibly be in this case, but that doesn't guarantee he has any idea as to what he his talking about.

why would they discontinue the YM when the YMII is relatively new, and did they not release a rose gold version not in the too distant past?
Sounds like a plan to get you to buy a new watch, so you can "store" your YM since, now, it will become SO RARE and thus too valuable to wear on a daily basis ;) |

I would not trust an AD on something like this, I wouldn't miss it though.

Maybe Rolex went over to ask men and read the watch snob's opinion on the YM (i.e., he says it's a marketing gimmick to rebrand a Submariner with a new bezel/dial) and decided "You know what? Snob is right, let's ditch this model."
Don't flame me -- I like them! And I highly doubt they're going away. It would be nice to see such a fine bezel get an upgraded bracelet to go with it. |

Still on the Rolex site so utter nonsense. Unless of course he has a direct line to the top of the Rolex company... yeah right.

I've heard the Yacht-Master is being discontinued about the same amount of times I've heard the 16600 is being reintroduced....
There's only one question that needs to be asked- can a mod lock a thread whilst wearing a Rolex?
