Why I've decided to leave TRF
It's been a very hard decision for me but I'm just sick to the teeth of all this "What knife" or "What gun" or "What bow and arrow" goes with your Rolex. I'm also fed up with the insults people throw at other's home country.
This has always been a good forum with a family atmosphere I've made a lot of good friends and I hope they stay in touch. Steve and the moderators have done a fantastic job and the membership has grown out of all proportion. Unfortunately the growth has attracted some unsavory characters and I can't take anymore of the Ramboesque comments or posts. To those involved, grow up and get a life. To the rest all my best wishes for the future. I will keep my membership open so I can receive PM's. Thanks for all the fun but it's just not funny now. Adrian.

Adrian, you've got to be kidding. You're a plank owner her, my friend, one of the originals. You can't leave. The place just won't be the same.

Adrian,
I've noticed the growth but have not noticed the downturn in the quality of posts. I, like you, don't see the need for some of the threads but I'm sure many look at some of my threads with . Hope you change your mind. I've enjoyed your insights, information, and pics. Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best. dP

Hope you haven't fully made up your mind Adrian. I sent you a PM as well.
In the whole wide world, there will always be comments, that is the sad reality. We do our best to educate these folks, but sometimes mindsets are hard to change re: rude comments about other people's countries.

Adrian, do what you think is best. I have noticed the growth and ALSO noticed a downturn in the quality of the posts. I am more of a lurker here and on other forums and don't post frequently.

Sorry to see you leave TRF AJ.
I will address this as I wonder if your post is directed at myself, since you make reference to "What Gun" and "What Knife" post, two of which I have started. ( http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...hlight=firearm and http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...ighlight=knife ) Well, they were pretty popular post if you look at the number of views and responses. Most men I have met that are into watches are also into Knives and Firearms as well. And since several personal things that most men will carry on them are a watch, knife and a good pen, seems fitting to have post comparing them. And firearms as well, for many on this forum who are in professions that require a firearm or in a country that allows one to own a firearm for sport, hunting or personal protection. Items are very compatible with watches. Hope you stay on the forum, if a certain post about knives or guns offends your pacifist views, then just ignore the post. Anyway hope you stay as I have enjoyed many of your insightful watch post. Cheers. Last edited by leopardprey; 3 August 2007 at 11:09 PM.. |

Unlike relatives, we can still choose our friends or which forum to participate in.
I'll respect your decision, Adrian, but I do hope you'll stay.

Adrian,
As a newer member I hope that you would reconsider. I've always enjoyed your posts and gentlemanly manner. I've always assumed that the comments made on the board that may have been on the border of offensive have always been in jest. I would imagine the comments were made BECAUSE of the closeness of the members. You can say certain things to friends and family that you could never say to a more distant relation because it would be taken in the wrong way. Again, please reconsider. |

Adrian,
I'm just another new kid on the block... However, I've learned that there are just a few here whose post I will automatically open, regardless of the thread they're in.. You are one of those... I hope that I have not been, in part, responsible for driving you away... |

This is indeed one of the saddest days on TRF...when such an outstanding member like our beloved "Uncle" has decided to leave us.
I've known Adrian for almost FOUR years now and he's always managed to throw me off my damned chair with his fantastic humour and subtle quips. Adrian, I beg you to change your mind. Surely, all this can be sorted out amicably......and I'm also quite sure that nobody would deliberately try and hurt you. You are just too good a gentleman (I won't add "tosser") and we would be completely lost without you. Your departure would leave a large empty void in TRF....something most of the friends who love you, won't be able to live with for the rest of their days here. Think about this one, my friend.....and log back on - no questions asked!! My very best - JJ

Adrian,
As some one who has reciently returned, I am sad to hear your descision to leave. The reason I have come back to TRF instead of going to the other forum is the people here. Some of the other forums have had real heated battles on politics, religion, racism and so fourth. This is my hobby and I too do not find it enjoyable to have to banter on personal beliefs. But in some ways, it is what makes us all unique. After all we are all a bunch of people who others may think were all crazy being obsessed over watches. The same is true on our other collections and how they may intertwine with each other. When I switched over from the other un named forum, you were here as an original. I hope you will reconsider leaving. Best regards, Mort |

Adrian,
I'd like to chime in and tell you how disappointed I am that you are leaving! I really do hope that you'll reconsider. I definitely understand your feelings concerning some of the distasteful threads that have popped up on TRF. I have felt that way too and have chosen many times to just ignore. But all in all, I think TRF is a fantastic forum with great people who come together throughout the day to talk about their passion for Rolex. It's why I visit daily. Ultimately the decision is yours, but I must tell you it's been a pleasure reading your posts and I'd hate you to leave for good. All the best, Karis |

Well paint me green and call me a frog, Adrian has lost his marbles! I’m not gonna beg and I’m not gonna plead you to stay. I just want to point out what you are going to miss. My pleasant company and highly intelligent conversation. One pair of hardly ever-used Dutch clogs, yellow, with orange windmill design. One kilo of old Gouda cheese, I have scraped as much of the mildew of it as I could. And to top it all off, a good supply of Dutch liquorice. Now, what do you say? Forget that thread and get with it! Yeah baby, yeah!

Only been here for a month or so, so my post means nothing to you (and all the other long time members) but ... I always enjoyed your comments, sheep related or not.
And personal views as to other countries, history etc have to be taken lightly, especially mine I for one, even if it might sound 'rude' or 'inappropriate' to some, it is NEVER intended, just put a behind every post of mine and this time I am not kidding ... About the knives and what not, maybe all these threads belong in the 'Open discussion' section, so members like yourself do not need to open them (I completely understand, even though I have no problem with them myself) as they browse for more pure 'Rolex' related threads. This is not meant to be a criticism, just a remark and probably very much open to discussion (on the 'Open discussion' section hint hint ). From reading the posts of the longtime members (my opinion too) you are a valued poster and it would be ashame to loose you on here. Although I post a lot of 'garbage/non Rolex related', I cannot stress enough how much it means to newbies like me to find a forum like TRF with this kind of knowledge and agreeable people. Hereby apologizing for any clogging of threads. Filip |

I hope you don't sign off, Adrian.
If you remember there was a time just a couple of weeks after the new ownership kicked in there was a spate of posts that older members were getting fed up with. It sorted itself out in due course.

Adrian,
While I have participated in some of the threads you are talking about, most of us were just trying to have friendly discussions about other avenues that may interest us. I completley agree that there is a few members that utterly ruin those threads (and many others) with this Rambo mentallity you speak of. ( I could name them but whats the use?) And, again, I agree about the utter lack of respect for our friends from other countries. Inexcusible. But, please don't let a few bad apples destroy the whole bushell for you. I would hope you could stay on the forum longer, I am sure many of us have benifited from your being a member here. |

I'd be sorry to see you go.......but if the forum is no fun for you anymore then the best thing to do is leave.
This is, after all, meant to be a fun past time....I log in after getting home from a hard day at work, for a bit of relaxation. I just ignore any posts that I'm not interested in....life's too short ! |

I love this forum. It has the greatest info on Rolex. Its also not just about watches ,but people too.People with different backgrounds, viewpoints, interests etc. That what makes it interesting. If everybody had the same view,it would have been pointless to be here.It would have been pretty damn boring.

Adrian: an old friend here...I haven't posted here in a while but I saw this thread and couldnt resist...
I spend most of my time at a forum dedicated to politics as I am the parent of someone who fought in the Iraq War and I am an outspoken critic, no details necessary... What does that have to do with guns and knives? Well, maybe nothing but I think we both have lived long enough and seen enough to know when things are going in the wrong direction, whether it be on a wristwatch forum or in the world in general. On forums like this one, we must keep our politics to ourselves, or good friendships can be torn apart, I know from personal experience in the real world. Maybe discussions about guns in a time when so much of the world is at each others throats, is something bound to cause issues on a benign forum like this one. Well, I have said enough, I respect your wishes and wish for you nothing but good health and prosperity ! |
