If you look at the casting on the flip part of the clasp, it is dreadful! Maybe just the photo? Also, the etching on the clasp look wrong. Very wrong. The spacing on the pj3 is way off, and the centre pin looks like something from my timex. It is difficult to tell from pictures, but from your pictures, I sure wouldn't buy. Hopefully, for you, I'm wrong....

I call it a bad fake as well. When compared to a known real clasp it is pretty bad.

I have to agree Eddie...
Viewing this against mine, there are many things not right about this one.
The scroll work is all wrong. In a genuine, the scroll is actually engraved slightly into the metal and parts of the scroll lines do change in thickness. This one is simply painted on and not engraved at all nor does it vary in size on the scroll lines.
Also, the Geneva, PJ3 and Steelinox are poorly spaced and not tight level and clean as they should be.
The pin between the two clasp blades is incorrect in both size and quality.
The poor casting under the flip lock is also not good and poorly done. That piece is actually properly finished and has two slight angles shaved into it.
The teeth on glide mechanism are rounded more than the real one, and the swing arm under the glidelock teeth is of an incorrect proportion to the real deal. In fact, many subtle errors are present on this in regards to shape and finish.

It is without doubt to me, this is not a 'real' clasp.
Here are only two pics I've been able to find (not mine, but courtesy of JohnEaton, thanks John). These ones show a tiny bit of my descriptions. If someone else has others, please post!

The pin at the 'elbow' of the clasp seems too long and poorly constructed. I think Rob is 100% spot on, looks like a fake.

How do I move forward with the seller ,He is adamant it is genuine and my ad gave it a quick look and said looks fine just been worn and unloved ,

I paid for it with a credit card so will now put it there hands to recover my money .

It was suggested I return it for a refund but if I post it back I will have no evidence etc

any suggestions ?? a massive thank you to Rob (sleddog) for bringing this to my attention fake

How long ago did you buy it? if not long ago I would cancel the payment, then send it back, of course they 'could' say that 'you' are returning a dud but I do hope not, they should be aware they have fobbed you off. Can you get to another AD, the one you went to obviously doesn't know his stuff!! even I, a relatively newbie, could see a difference before I read the other posts. I hope you get it resolved

Did you buy it privately or from a dealer?, get trading standards involved, it can only help your case

Hi

I bought it from Ebay !.

Before i purchased it I asked all the right questions and had all the correct emails back assuring me off the fact it was genuine.Where he purchased it etc the only thing missing was the serial number. That I sort off understood as why would I need it,

On Receipt off the clasp I thought it is in quite poor condition, and asked for a opinion and was told its certainly been worn and appears correct and the wear is consistent with hard wear etc, And was reminded not everyone has safe queens etc.

I decided to sell it and Rob emailed me his concerns .I am totally gob smacked as to me it looked ok but alongside my brother in laws it still didnt concern me as to it being fake just heavily worn.

Obviously I had lots off interest in buying it and no one has called me out and said mate you are selling a fake .I am now convinced something isnt correct with it and have no option other than try and get a refund or just send it to Rolex with the details off the seller ,If as above they consider it counterfeit I expect a covering letter from them worded Counterfeit item we have crushed etc. This letter I will use to support my claim for refund from Mastercard /PayPal.

It is with much appreciation to the members on here who have come forward and supported the statement its a fake and the reasons why they feel it is .

Obviously the seller is less than Happy , He claims its genuine and is going to go to his dealer and sort it out this week .None off this is off any interest to me ,I would just like a refund and my prefference is to send the clasp to RSC for there opinion but if I do it will just cause more problems as He is demanding the item back for inspection

The main thing now is to regain your money.
I think we've discerned beyond a reasonably doubt that this is not a genuine Rolex article.
Personally, I think you need confirmation in writing by a reputable and knowledgeable 3rd party. RSC UK is the way to go IMO. Only trouble is, they may confiscate it. If you show them the auction you purchased it from, and tell them the reason/need to help with a refund. They should be able to work with you.

Best of luck.

Rob.

Hi, You are right they will 100% confiscate it.I have informed all the appropriate parties involved ,I have the support of my credit card issuer Mastercard as I have been with them 25yrs and nothing like this has happend before.

I expect it will take months to sort out. I dont know if to send it to RSC as the last email from the seller was he needed it to go to his Rolex dealer/watchman to resolve the issue. My guess now is he will just vanish with the clasp.

Would anyone know if you need to return a item you paid for before you can receive the refund .

Here is what I'd do:

At first, I would send the seller the this thread and ask for a refund before you send him back the clasp. I would explain him politely, that after he was selling you a fake, your confidence is zero and you are not willing to return him the clasp before a refund for that reason.

I'd also tell him that - if you are not able to work out things with him - you will give the clasp to the CC company as a neutral third party.

It may also help to tell him, that you are considering sending the clasp to Rolex with the seller information and Rolex may take legal steps against him for dealing with fakes. It may also not harm to mention, that they may confiscate the clasp but he'll still be responsible to refund you the money.

Hope, that all this works out. One of the reasons, why I don't buy on ebay.

I have contacted PayPal /Ebay .

also contacted the seller three times and no reply after he said I would be refunded on the 21st , It now seams to me he new exactly what he was selling .

I will call Mastercard tonight to discuss what has gone on and maybe after being a customer for 25 yrs will count for something ,I wont hold my breath.

I asked for his email address so I could forward this post but he now doesnt reply weird as he had positive feedback off 55 ,I even sent him a paypal invoice for the sum of money involved .

I bloody hate ebay !
