Opinions Needed
I've made a decision to get a new watch, but I can't decide which one. I've narrowed it down to the following: Rolex Sub C (40 mm), Omega PO XL (45.5 mm) with the ceramic bezel, and the GS Spring Drive GMT (43.5 mm) with the sapphire crystal bezel. I've seen all three and they each have their pros and cons. I went into the Omega boutique in NYC today and sow the new Omega PO and it is very impressive. The Omega and the GS have sapphire crystal casebacks. Price wise the Rolex is by far the most expensive. Resale value is not a consideration. I would buy both the Omega and the Rolex from a trusted TRF seller and the Grand Seiko I can get at a discount in the USA. As to accuracy the GS Spring Drive is the most accurate and the Omega and Rolex are COSC certified. Water resistance is not an issue. I do like larger watches. Don't bring up the DSSD. I owned one and sold it to a relative - I was not happy with the size of the dial in comparison to the overall size. The fact that it was water resistant to 13,000 feet was total overkill and meaningless in the real world. I also owned a Rolex GMT II C and could not deal with the PCL's and the scratches that appeared out of nowhere.
I know that this is a Rolex forum, but I would appreciate any objective comments. Thank you in advance. |

Get the Sub-C or the new PO. I love the new Co-Axial with 8500 movement. Their new PO is substantial and awesome. Then there's Rolex..... Rolex is ROLEX and due to this being a Rolex forum, I'm going to side with Sub-C with the Omega brig second choice.

It's a Rolex Forum with an Omega Discussion section, too.
My take - the Sub

Speaking as Carl I would say - get the one that runs on batteries....But bear in mind that that means it's not going to be a mechanical watch - with all the concomitant insecurities that that entails - battery changes, Nuclear blast problems (your battery powered watch will stop) and a host of other difficulties that attend non-mechanical time pieces.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - I'm off to the bar... |

As for the real question of this thread, since you like larger watches I'd go with the Planet Ocean, it is a great watch indeed and you can't go wrong with an Omega! Otherwise I'd probably go with the Submariner since it's a very versatile watch as well as a tough watch!

Love the PO but I don't care for the grayish colored bezel. I vote for the SubC.

For me, the cal. 8500 Planet Ocean is a no-brainer. It's a superb watch, one of the finest dive watches money can buy. At the price it is, it's a bargain

The Sub-C is a fantastic watch. I am a big Omega fan as well, and would at least consider the new PO. However, the Rolex is so perfect in so many ways that it's hard to pass up.

The SubC is my favorite watch. Though the GS GMT is truly spectacular, that sapphire bezel is just beautiful! I would own a GS if they had several (not just one) Authorized Service centers here in the US.
Dollar for dollar/what you stated in your post = the GS wins (sorry fellas) |

The SubC would be my choice, but you need to get the one you like the best.

I would say go with the Sub C but I'm a bit biased! I love mine! Whats not to like?

I love the GS. But would probably own a Rolex (Sub) before purchasing that bad boy.
Maybe you should consider which watch you will purchase first, then second, then third...See where I'm going with this? We're all quite the sick bunch. |

If it's for casual wear only, then the PO would be cool, otherwise the SubC. The PO would be too large for me to wear with a suit or any dressy shirt for that matter.
