Has anyone recovered their lost/stolen Rolex or other watch?

Curious to see if any members have recovered their lost or stolen Rolexes or other watches.

Yes, it has happened to my wife. She was devastated when she "lost" her
18K Lady Datejust President with the full load - diamond bezel and dial. She noticed it missing after we had returned home from a shopping trip. I had given it to her on our 25th Wedding Aniversary and the replacement value was $32,800!! I must admit I was a little choked myself. We back-tracked and went to all the stores we were in hoping some honest soul had turned it in, but no success. The wife did mention she was "bumped" in a busy open market - Oh Oh, an old pick-pocket ploy. The next step - phone the police to initiate an insurance claim. A very sympathetic police officer came to our home and took the details. It was a sad day - BUT - the next morning the wife was in the bathroom doing the daily girlie things and dropped something on the floor. As she bent down to pick up the dropped object, she noticed a heap of yellow metal that was in her line of vision underneath the toilet tank on the floor. As she pulled it out, there was a joyous scream when she discovered her "lost" Rolex!! How it got under there cannot be explained to this day. Needless to say, I immediately phoned the investigating officer to cancel the report. I thought it was over, but a year later we received a call from the police department advising us that her watch had been recovered!! I thanked the officer for all efforts on our behalf and advised them it was not my wife's Rolex.

Actually, my wife has had many adventures with her enormous jewelery collection. One day she discovered she had lost her irreplaceable custom designed ring I bought for a Birthday that cost $12,000. She immediately phoned the hotel conference room she was in to the report the loss and gave a statement and description to the local place station. Again, another cry of joy when she found it in the laundry basket a few days later!! With another ring she has, the main stone has been "lost" three times and then found in her carry-on luggage at an airport, on the floor in our bathroom, and in her purse, in that order!! This woman has horse shoes or a Guardian Angel watching over her!!!

However, her luck did run out on a Carribean cruise which we took last spring. Somewhere in Room 112 on the PCL "Carribean Princess" or on the pinky finger of a non-deserving reciprient, is a blue and white diamond ring I bought her in Juneau, Alaska.

I guess two out of three ain't bad!!

My father in law had his PP and VC watches stolen from his home 30 years ago. I'm sure they're out there, somewhere. He did not write down the serial #s so there is no way to get them back.

My family's (parent's) house was robbed while I was overseas. Among many things we lost was my family crest ring, given to me by my father (irreplaceable to me). The police never got anything back, but my dad found the ring in a pawnshop 3 months later, and it had even been re-sized! The thief had pawned it with his own ID, so he was arrested shortly thereafter. He got 3 years, all but 1 suspended, credit for time served, eligible for parole immediately. My dad told me that the funny thing was that when checking pawn shops to find our stuff, he always saw stuff he wanted to buy, but just didn't feel right about it anymore. The pawn dealer asked him to "prove" the ring was his. Dad (only 5'8" 150 lbs, 65 years old with glasses in a suit, but an ex-Marine) just walked out of the store with it and said that they were welcome to call the police but he was going to kill anyone who tried to take it from him. I think after 3 weeks of going to pawn shops, his patience was a little thin. Anyway, it's on my finger right now.

I don't have Rolex, but if I was to find a Rolex or any watch. I would first look up how much it costs, than make the decision on whether or not to look for the owner to give their watch back. After that, I would try and figure out what type of person they are. Why go out of your way to give back something. If the person is just an asshole? Life does not work out that way in my opinion.

Doesn't returning something that someone else lost say more about what kind of person YOU are, instead of worrying what kind of person they are????

My don't you contact Fidel. He is still alive and owns a Rolex. Maybe he knows who has Che's Rolex! If a CIA agent did take it, he probably traded it with J. First of all it is not rumor, it happened. Should the family have it back should they wanted? I see why not. The family is not responsible for Guevara's actions, and after all this watch was stolen from him after he was ordered to be murdered by the president of Bolivia at the time.

This is a very valuable watch due to its history and I do think the family should go after it.

Guevara did many bad things as he was very passionate about his believes, but he should've had a trial and not have his property stolen is my opinion.
