16610 LV F Serial Crystal Smashed

I've been going through a bit of a rough patch at the tail end of last year which was topped off at about 5am on the 31 st of December when my wife knocked my 16610 LV off the side table and onto a tiled floor. A little over a foot drop.
I was floored when i picked it up to see the crystal shattered. I put it down picked it up just to check again. I was devastated.
I took the watch to the Rolex Service centre and they have recommended a dial and hands replacement.
I went back in to see the damage to the dial and hands there is one tiny mark under the 9oclock marker i couldn't see the mark on the hands with the naked eye.
I'm posting because the dial and hands they want to replace them with are different.
The original dial has the swiss made over 5 seconds and the slightly green hour markers.
The replacement dial is a maxi dial but has different swiss made and looked a different colour on the hour markers.
My question to the Rolex forumers is whether they would be more put off by a watch that had the wrong dial and hands for the serial number or by a tiny mark.
I guess i am asking do i change the dial and hands or do i keep it original.
Thanks for all opinions

The hands are going to be the same and if there is a tiny bend to the hands, change them. They are fairly inexpensive.

As for the dial, most will not notice or care about the slight variations. You can ask them to try different dials they have on hand and see if there is one that happens to match the old one. If not and you want the MK 1 dial then keep the original.

Did they ask for a movement service? Make sure they check the movement for possible sapphire fragments.

Sorry to hear the problem but it's not a difficult fix.

If you plan on keeping the watch for life, it doesn't matter how those changes affect value.

If originality is key to you, then demand the old parts back. If they won't agree, consider an alternative service provider - a certified watchmaker with a parts account perhaps.

I'd go ahead and change the dial/hands but this way you'll have old dial and hands if you want to revert sometime in the future.

That depends on the type of surface it landed on, its glass although sapphire hit it hard enough it will shatter or chip.

Keep the dial if the mark doesn't bother you and change the hand set.

most would not notice, try and keep the damaged dial with the watch so in the future should you sell it the history will be complete.

Are the hour markers really a different shade on a mark 1 dial. I currently have both but it's hard to tell.

First, sorry to hear this happened especially when you were going through a rough patch.
Second, I hope you weren't too mad at your wife, as she's probably the best support to have during any rough patch.
Third, are you the "super-attention-to-detail-a-speck-of-dust-under-the-glass-would-bother-me-forever" type of person? If so, that mark on the dial will bug you to no end, and will be a constant reminder of the accident. If that's the case, then replace the dial. If you don't really mind a small mark, keep it. I would change the hands for sure.

Hope that helps.

Ouch very sorry to hear.

If the mark is very small on the dial I wouldn't change it.
The hands I would, make sure same lume colour.
I'd also service the movement at the same time.

Once done it'll look great again

Here is a pic of the watch as it was when i dropped it off at the Service Centre.
They did specify that a service was necessary to ensure there are no tiny glass fragments inside the movement. Obviously a crystal replacement.
I would have needed to set up a photo studio to have been able to demonstrate the marks on the dial and hands.
Are there any AD or RSC that would allow me to retain the dial if they replaced it.
If i could retain the dial, I would have it replaced. But RSC was adamant dials are replaced on an exchange only basis.
If anybody on here from AUS knows any of the AD in Sydney and think they would do this I would be ecstatic to know.
I'm not really the pickiest of people. But i like nice things and try to maintain them in the best condition possible and keep them in that state for as long as possible.
Oh it was a drop onto tiles. The tiled floor has been around for 20 odd years so maybe they are quite hard tiles. The place where it fell the tile was slightly raised and it hit the corner that was raised.

Holy crap, if it wasn't my wife who did something like that I'd have to let her go!

I hope your wife is profusely sorry. If so, I'd take advantage of the situation... tell her you need a new watch while the Sub gets repaired!

Sorry to hear of this, I hope the repair is to your satisfaction.

What was it doing off your wrist in the first place?

If I had an F serial LV, I would want to keep the original dial and hands.. It would take some serious damage to make me change out those items on a first issue model..
