Rolex 6263 non-Daytona sigma - should I buy?

A contact has found me a 6263 c1974 with a pre-Daytona sigma dial. It has a 727 movement in working order. The case has been changed in the '80s with a c1975 case, now with a bit of pitting. No papers but there is a box.

Probably my grail watch or very nearly. I'm concerned about if an exchange case seriously affects the value or abilty to resell, if ever, and if the lack of papers is a major problem. Is it a Frankenwatch in your opinion, with little value, or is it a serious purchase opportunity?

Questions guys: value you'd pay for the watch and should I buy or hold out for another watch with original case & papers?

Thanks.

I would hold out, if you ever resold it, would be just as difficult for you to resell!

Thanks Cruvon - is that because of the replacement case or the lack of papers or because of the non-Daytona dial?

Cheers.

I would say the replacement case and dial not original to the watch would be a huge problem, lack of papers is no big issue. It might be a profitable buy if you buy it cheap and part it out though, not sure what that dial sells for, maybe some others here will chip in.

Thanks. I understand that the dial is original, albeit it is pre-Daytona script but the case was had to be changed as it was deemed not waterproof.

still same answer, remember that the case has the serial and reference number inscribed on it so an improper case makes the watch loose it's originality and it's collectability. Hold out for an original example.

Replacement case and wrong dial....Not a chance. What would I pay? Nothing as I wouldn't touch it. Wait till you can get an honest example.

Just keep on looking, you'll find your grail.
