Sub 16610 - overpriced? Fad?
Been looking to buy a new watch...
I've always wanted an old Sub 16610...but here in the UK dealers are wanting about £4k for them now... Considering there must be 100's of thousands of them out there I think they're taking the pi$$ a bit... For that sort of money I'd rather pay the extra and get a new Rolex Submariner Date 116610LN from an AD in the UK, or order one at Geneva Airport and fly there and save a few quid... So do you guys think the 16610 is overpriced? Will prices "drop" when people get a bit more accustomed to the new shape? RAZZ |

The new Sub is $8,000 MSRP in USA now...
I think that is a little high but people are buying as fast as Rolex can make them so I guess it doesn't matter what we "think"! |

Sorry, didn't make myself clear.
Price of the Old Sub 16610 is about £4k second-hand. I believe the new model 116610LN is about £5320 (?) new. RAZZ |

I think a used 16610 is overpriced and I own one! I can't believe it's worth more now then when I bought it in 2005. Even if I want the new one after selling mine, I still have to come up with a good amount of cash to get essentially the same watch, 116610... I know it's better but double the price better? Perhaps.. Just glad I don't have to make that decision.. Pay too much for the old or pay too much for the new... What a quandary

It's supply and demand
Everyone wants a sub and that keeps prices high |

No discount for 16610 from ADs here in Toronto. ADs here I heard gives 15% off on new 116610LN.

I appreciate the old Sub is a classic. But to almost double in price in about 5 years?

As long as there are people who will pay the price the price will stay high. And Rolex and the ADs are not having any problems moving them!!!

i am not complaining about the rolex price increases, since i have just about every model im interested in and bought them over the years at more reasonable prices.however i agree with other posters that these increases have been extreme.guess its time to just enjoy what i have.

I've got news for you guys...the bubble is about to burst and the Rolex market along with it's pricing is going to completely collapse like the stock market! According to my estimates it's going happen on the next Monday...the next Monday after never!

The Rolex sub is a great watch.......after you buy one, used or new...you don't care about the cost anymore......

Whatever a discontinued model may be, I don't think that fad is the word to describe it.

paid around $4K for my 13 year old a-series Submariner a little over 2 months ago and I still have yet to find one priced that LOW here on the forums! How's that for value add? If I want a used sub-C I'd be looking at adding over two and a half stacks on top of that! With that type of pricing I think I'm good with the classic for now :)

If its a fad, its a super duper long lived one!
As to price reductions, I would agree that highly doubtful ... my dealer told me about a month ago that there are like 3,400 open orders from US dealers for the LN and they are always way behind in filling those. |

I was told back in October to expect that there would be a shortage of SS Subs on the market and in fact, when I ordered my 14060M on November 6, it took a full month for it to arrive.

I agree that prices are going up, but for good reason, this is a highly desirable model, and very well known among the sport line models.
And, there are fewer and fewer of the 16610 brand new floating around.
