Rolex or Expensive Car? Not both.

If I had to choose, I might go for the watch. You can own 10 to 15 cars in a lifetime. A watch can last for generations. It would be nice to choose both, you can only choose one.

Go Giants!

Most cars are depreciating assets & haemorrhage money like its going out of fashion.

I'd take a Rolex any day of the week

It just depends what your going to get the most enjoyment out of. However a watch will typically last longer, and you can take it anywhere.

Sorry but the car wins for me. I have had my dream car for the past 30 years and can honestly say that there is nothing like the feeling of a weekend cruse in a classic which you have had for so long.hard to explain but awsome to experience..
A great watch is also really nice, can't deny..

Very few cars appreciate in value and they are expensive to run! I'll take the watch that may increase in price and only needs service every once in a while, as well as it is good on gas!

Car. You drive a car. You look at a watch. Guaranteed, if you don't buy the car you will see someone driving it and you will kick yourself. Save for the watch. IMHO

Slightly older, classic car, then save up for the watch. :)

I have both the fine cars that I desire and the fine watch that I desire. However, I did purchase my cars before my watch, so I suppose I'd have to say cars, then watch. I like to think that it's not a zero sum game, that a rising tide does indeed lift all boats, and the only thing holding a man back is himself - so go for it and get it done! (Short answer, both).

as long as money matters, i'd chose a watch. and if it didn't matter i wouldn't have to chose.

I'll put it this way... If you're a single gent or gal and no one is relying on you get the timepiece, if you have a family then there are no options the car wins! David only a few more hours! GO GIANTS!!!

strange, i feel exactly the opposite. before having a kid, i used to have relatively nice cars and wouldn't have dreamed of buying a brand new rolex. now all i care about a car is its trunk size and bought a watch wanting to leave it to my son.

We only had two options from David which were Car or Rolex. My response reflected the options at hand. Before I got married all I owned was my apartment which has thus been sold and I had no interest in owning a car at the time so all I did was hoard my paychecks bought a simple Datejust in 2005 during my Honeymoon. After that I went haywire with my timepiece reference collection. Not like this matter, however, at one point I thought I would auction off all my timepieces at Christies or Sotheby's or something, yet, as the years progressed I felt my collection will be best served for my offspring as you can relate. Long winded answer to your question but please be aware I was just answering the question with the options at hand

I have a solution that will solve the choice problem. Go to a dealership and pick the car you want and tell them you will purchase the car if they include a Rolex Model -------- (you fill in).

Words of advice:

(1) Do expect a shocked look if you go into a Kia, Hyundai, Mazda, Subaru, or like dealership.
(2) You will get a much better reception at the Porsche, R.R., Ferrari, Maserati, Bentley, Mercedes, BMW, Lamborgini, or like dealership, but expect to pay fill list!

Best of both worlds!!!

the thread's title is "rolex or expensive car" not "rolex or any car" so my answer is rolex and a reasonably priced car.

I had an expensive car (for me anyway) about 13 years ago but used to worry about parking it places, damage etc. My solution was to get a 2nd car i.e. a banger to park at the station, use for running about town

What I then realised was that I prefered the older\ less expensive car. Seriously - there's a lot of pleasure in having an old banger & keeping it running & looking good plus if it gets damaged - its not the end of the world.

What are we talking about here though ?? A Porche 911 could set you back what Ł90K whereas a sub Ł5K - so are we comparing like with like here ?????

Still driving my dream "car", a 97 Dodge/Cummins pickup. I ordered it new, and it has 360,000 miles showing right now. lt's been my "old reliable", just one less thing to worry about.

I'm not a car guy. So I would go for the watch since I want to build a collection for my kids to have after I'm 'gone.'

I'm not a car person so the watches win.....now if I hit the lottery it won't matter and then I can have all of them. The first car I'd go after is an E-type Jaguar as I have an old time friend(known for 44 years) who restores them and works on them so I'm covered there!!!

I've had my car for over 8 years and my Rolex only for a couple of months, so will probably need to get a car before a new watch.

i bought my 2004 911 with very low miles 5 years ago at a very good price. the bottom fell out and my car was suddenly worth 20k less. i bought my first rolex in dec 2011 and now i've fallen for it and i'm starting to look for my second watch, a sub i think. i think rolex compliments the car and vice versa. toss up that goes to the car.

My advice is only buy them if you can afford to pay for them in cash. Don't go putting yourself in hock for one or the other. Watches are cheaper and hold their value better, but you can't transport people or yourself in a watch.

I'd buy the watch and save for the car. A) watches are cheaper than the cars I want, b) prices rise on the watches faster than cars, c) car depreciation takes a little while to bottom out. I'm probably another year or two away from getting my used baby - faster if I forgo some of the watches I've got on order.
