Who has a creative profession and what watch do you wear?
I was having a conversation with some friends, conveying this theory of mine that creative people with a deeper sense of esthetics more often go for less-is-more watches. The friends I have in the creative professions, if they care about watches at all, typically wear something simple, e.g. an architect friend has an Explorer (36mm), another actor/writer/TV-personality wore a Sea-Dweller for quite some time, etc.
It is just us Corporate rats that go for the big flaunty watches!!! :-) Who here on TRF works in the creative professions and what do you wear? Photos, creative or not, are most welcome! :-) Cheers, Patrick (who used to be a creative, then chickened out and went to business school and ended up in Corporate America) |

I work primarily in nuclear power. In the power related field I come in contact with equipment that poses the ability to produce a high Gauss output. This is one of the reasons I wear a Milgauss. My actual job is a welding inspector. Working as an inspector I have also welded and supervised the use of 904L steel using NiCrMoCuN25 filler metals in components that will see a high corrosion atmosphere. I have great respect for Rolex in their selection of this material for the newer steel watches. My job also takes me all over the world. This puts me working with the states as well as several other countries at the same time. So when I get home next week I will pick up my new GMTiiC.

I am an industrial designer with an MBA which is a clash of two worlds.
I wear subs and an IWC. Two of my designers wear watches. One is a seiko and the other is a fossil.

I'm a lawyer, so it's not normally a profession seen as "creative." However, like many of us in my profession, I started as a writer and morphed into a specialized writer, just doing "boring" legal writing. My work is less boring (probably) than someone writing jacket covers for books, but not as interesting as someone writing novels or short stories (which I've also done). I also have to make the occasional "stage performance" in court, so hey my days doing community and college theatre also come into play.
In any regard, a creative person needs a date on their watch -- because you can't be bothered to know the date of the month when churning out the next best work of art or literature. So, that's key. Aside from that, go for aesthetic, and go automatic. I mean, an "Arrrrr-Tiste" cannot be bothered to trek to the mall for a battery replacement, especially since most mall-rat type stores won't guarantee the water-tightness after a battery replacement. As an "Arrrrr-Tiste" you also can't be bothered with a watch you can't put under a faucet or forgetfully wear into the shower... or forgetfully stick into a vat of paint or gesso or dye or ink or what have you. Automatic. Waterproof. Aesthetic. Start there, then explore options. In the meantime, learn the difference between esthetic and aesthetic. One is primarily an invented beauty school term, it seems. |

I used to work as a producer in a studio for spoken words productions and music. I left the business to work with software development since it is actually more creative(seriously, it is). The reason I am wearing a Rolex is most likely influence from parents and siblings and National Geographic ads.

I guess I'm quite creative. I used to be a photographer but nowadays have a small London based company making high-end limited edition cufflinks, sculptures and brief cases etc. Whilst I don't actually do the physical making of the pieces, all the designs and concepts are mine, which I'd like to think is pretty creative. I currently wear, and enjoy, a very unsubtle DSSD!

A friend of mine is a very good graphic designer and one of the most creative persons I know. She wears a Cartier Tank Francaise (but it was a gift from her husband who works in banking). I don't think she cares too much about it.
I don't consider myself to be very creative except maybe for some crazy iphone photography I experiment with.
