It will be nice if it comes with original box, books and warranty paper and a sales receipt where it was purchased.

Short of that, make sure the watch is in pretty good condition with no annoying scratches, dings, deep crystal scratches etc.

Possibly you, your work mate & the watch should stop by a reputable dealer to insure that the watch is the real item.

First, buy the seller. Second, know the history of the watch, ie. when it was last serviced, service papers, etc...

Good luck!

Great advice so far thanks very much.

My colleague has said he would sell for about £3000, think ill be able to get it for less if i decide to go ahead.

The watch is in its box with the papers. As far as I'm aware it's not been serviced, is this something i should consider if I buy it? Ive seen different threads on here about servicing, some people say every 5 years others 7-10 years!!

My colleague has had a few Rolex's since ive known him and has always had nice watches so I doubt very much if its not the genuine thing, however spending this kind of money one can never be too careful!! Are there any checks i can make when viewing the watch to make sure its genuine, or am i best to go to an AD with it an have them check it out?

Ive got a couple of pics which I'll post later on.

Thanks once again.

I am not an expert but it looks like the dial has been switched out from the White gold Submariner.

No, if you are thinking the dial is blue it is just a reflection off of the crystal.

I stand corrected. Looked blue to me. Thanks for clearing that up.

Have it authentified at a Rolex AD (open of the back and movement check: less than 120$ because they change the back gasket too).

Have it serviced before use if possible, then every 5years if it sees water (gasket change).

A good second hand rolex should'nt be over polished.

I never purchase anything of value from a friend or colleague. If something goes wrong it is disastrous. Look at trusted TRF sellers.
