Ok so this maybe a pointless question to ask on here but i'm sure i'll get some balanced answers

.

So here's the deal, i may be in the fortunate position for a purchase of yet another watch, unfortunately due to circumstances that i won't go into it has to be from an AD. Now due to there being many great brands and models out in the market i have always been of the mind i'd like to have a variety of brands rather than stick with just the one. I (think) i've narrowed it down to two that i really like at this moment in time and would like to know what the forum thinks of them?

Love the green on this but as i own a Milgauss GV is it too similar?

Big fan of chrono's and the fair rarity of Zenith's out in the wild means as well as the #issued(birth year) that this appeals to me greatly.

Boy that Zenith is what I'd buy. I found a gold zenith at an antique store last year. $10 later, it was mine. It was a ladies model and I gave it to my sister.

The store had no idea what they had.

Food for thought. Zeniths are one of the most discounted brands, and they lose a lot in the secondary mkt. If you must buy from an AD, you'll need to be getting a hefty discount, like 30-40% to not lose your shirt down the road.

Not uncommon to see bnib Zeniths in the gray mkt for 50% off list.

Zenith is similar to Girard Perregaux, the nicest watches nobody wants. :)

I hear you on that front! I would be hoping that now Dufour is in charge at Zenith things will change and people will being to appreicate them more and the particular model i have posted up from another site is limited to 1975 copies and is not too easy to come by at all. I have been offered 1000 off list.

I like chrono's, too, and that Zenith is a beauty. I also believe GP is a a very fine choice with lots of interesting chrono options. If I had to pick, I would not buy Zenith wtihout at least looking at GP's chrono's.

There is something special about Rolexes, the history, the people, the build quality. I guess if I were to buy another one outside the brand, I would save and move up to ALS, VC, PP, AP territory. But that road can be pretty long.

Again something i have very much considered but only thing really grabbing me is an IWC Perpetutal Calender II, either that or move up the Rolex line

Yes why not, as much history if not as great(remembering that Rolex used El P movements for many years),much more exclusive and can you honestly say that the one pictured is not a looker?

I have ventured off the Rolex path a couple times. I like to experience a lot of watches and have found the other brands (PAM, JLC, Zenith) to be a little harder to sell or trade.

If you are buying with the intention to keep forever, I would say to go with either one. If, however, there is a chance that you will be trading or flipping in the near future, then make sure that you get a deep discount from the AD on non-Rolex or you will lose quite a bit of $$.

Some mornings AP still calls my name, but I always come back to Rolex.

Rolex for me too... Also from my experience nothing seems to hold its value like a Rolex should you ever wish to change your mind/resell the watch.

IMO I do not think the GV and LVc have anything in common other than the bit of green... Two entirely different watches

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the white dialed version of the Zenith you are showing, assuming I can get a good discount. Resale doesn't matter too much as I don't plan to sell, but will certainly use it as a reason when negotiating.

But I'm also considering a red Sub or an Exp42.
