Do all AD's have guards with guns?

Walked into one AD and there were two very large guards with guns that stared me down after I passed two doors one at a time. While looking at a watch, the salesperson asked one guard to stand next to me. Another AD just had one pay duty police officer. Pretty intimidating shopping experience for sure.

When I walked into a Cartier store in Paris, there were no visible guns and guards but they were giving out coffee/biscuits/wine and cheese.

Wow, some experience huh?

I guess they are bumping up security due to all t hose robberies - which finally opened up the eyes of other AD's.

I think the added security is better, and will prevent future theft. However, what they did is too much for sure!

Is this in the US? That is just out of the ordinary. Here is the US, even banks don't have armed guards.

But if that is in the Philippines then that is normal sight to see. Even a tiny grocery store have armed guards with assault rifles.

You should try going to McDonalds in Manila, the guards have shotguns

LOL I totally agree! I am from the Philippines and even a tiny clothing shop have armed guards with M16 rifles or pump action shotguns. Even hospitals got guards with Uzi and other sub machine guns. LOL Crazy but so true.

Yeah, our schools got heavily armed guards too like they are preparing for war.

You don't get tased, you get shot if you try to steal there.

Naahhh... People will always try to rob you. The crooks just need to have a plan like to outnumber and outgun the guards of the store and then you can now rob the store.

Here is vid of crooks dressed in police uniforms robbing the Rolex store in a luxury mall in Makati, Philippines. (part of metro manila)

That's a big surprise. The impression I get from the Filipinos here in Calif is that they are very honest people. I had no idea crime was such a problem back in their country.

Ben bridge has no guards and no doors. Wonder if they will after those robberies.

The last time I went to BB in downtown Seattle they had a uniformed, off-duty cop doing security. They were beginning some type of sale, so that may explain it. But he was a charming, personable guy (wearing a sub) so I didn't see it as an issue.

When I bought my Datejust at Ben Bridge, I wasn't offered wine and cheese like in Paris. I was just offered a warm bottle of Kirkland water as they ran my check!

Soon, it will be just like the airport. You will walk in, empty your valuables from your pockets, then walk into a bulletproof safe room, get a full body scan, then you will be shown pictures of the watches, but they will run your credit card first before you can try them on! #itsgettingcrazyoutthere

Guards?

Tourneau has no doors and no guards. You can walk right in.

Of course I never would because the salespeople are obnoxious snobs and I couldn't be bothered with them.

Come to think of it that may be part of their strategy.

Majority of the AD's and even banks do not have armed guards because it's a liability issue. They do not want to be sued by someone getting shot or heaven-forbid a robber getting shot and suing.

We at the Houston Gold Exchange have an electronic locking front door along with Law Enforcement officers for security all day. We do not use mall cops.

We do have a free-standing building and not in a mall. Another reason why most in a mall do not have in-store security is because if you shoot and miss...and innocent bystander could be struck by a stray bullet.

Those are very good points. I guess that's why some AD's have real police officers who are trained better than mall cops with guns or rifles??!!

If I see a mall security guard with a rifle, I am leaving that mall ASAFP.
I'm not entirely sure how they would manage to hold their rifle and maneuver their segway at the same time. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Tourneau doesn't need guards because if it's the New York store, there are police officers at nearly every single corner of every single block. Why bother having guards?

I've seen the double locked doors where you need to get buzzed in but never armed guards.

We have the same type of electronic doors. Our law enforcement officers are off-duty police officers but in reality they are never off-duty as they wear their uniforms when here. Many of our law enforcement officers have been with us for a long time. Some are Rolex wearers and can even talk shop with clients while keeping a close eye on everything else. Our officers come from various departments, from bomb squad, street-beat, homicide, gang squad and it does make for an interesting day to hear a few 'true' stories.

There is a jewelry store near my parents house in central Jersey that has officers in the store, because it is on a major highway. However having armed guards who just work for the store is a bad liability problem.

I agree it is a bad idea...I believe they get relaxed if it's the same person everyday. There are two shifts at our store. So we have two different officers a day...6 days a week we have 10-12 different officers. They are armed with their issued guns and tasers. The owner has always made safety a priority for our clients and the employees.
