Since the 14060M Oyster Perpetual Sub is being discontinued, any thoughts on the investment aspect of it? Its the closest thing to an original Sub that can still be purchased new.

Never buy a watch as an investment....Think of it more as money in the bank!
As for the future, who knows really!?!?! There's so many around, I doubt it will become the next DRSD.

If you like the watch and it's history, go for it!

Its a great watch. It will retain value. Not an investment, but a safe purchase. If you like it, buy it while you can.

No. They made TONs of these. You could prob buy new and put it in a safe and sell for a good amount in 20 years. That said its not an investment. Like was said above its not going to be worth $60k in 10 years because it was discontinued. Look at older subs and GMTs. They are worth a little more than what they were new but Rolex simply makes too many watches for any modern models to be rare in the future.

I dunno - they may only sell one or two of those fugly sky swellers. That might make them quite valuable in 50 years.

If you buy a nice clean second hand one then yes it can be an ivestment watch in a 4-5 years time which will make you profit a few hundreds or a thousand max. Watch is not a good investment, but if you consider the enjoyment of wearing it and a small profit together, then it is a great investment.

Buying any watch as an investment reminds me of the old saw: If you want to make $1MM buying and selling watches, start with $2MM.

As has been said, never buy a watch as an investment. If you want an investment, go to a good financial adviser and put your money into stocks and bonds. Over time, that will make you more money than watches.

Well to me that means that you can earn 50% margin because if you have $2million and that makes you $1million then you have $3million.

That's a pretty good investment/return if you ask me because you will not get 50% profit from keeping your money in the bank

So buy a $6K Sub and before you know it, it will be worth $9K. makes sense to me

Consider all of the other discontinued Subs...they aren't worth anything more because they are discontinued. A last-year 5513 is worth the same as a first year 14060 (give or take).

If you want a sub no date that probably always going to be wanted it would be the 5513, or one of the earlier models.

The best reasons to buy a 14060M are:

1. It's a damn good-looking, classic watch.

2. It is a hell of a bargain.

There may be more, but that's was enough for me to buy mine in anticipation last year.

Doubt it would grow in value during our lifetimes. Buy it to love it.

If you have the money to spend - buy BNIB, leave the stickers on, hermetically seal it in a time capsule, put it in a cornerstone of a new building, have them keep it sealed for 300 years and you'll have an antique worth more than you paid...maybe.

On the other hand, take 5 Krugerrands (about the same value as a new 14060M) and do the same thing...which do you think will have more value?

Rolex watches are not investments they are watches to be worn and enjoyed for decades hopefully in good health.Now after getting the pleasure of owning and wearing one of the finest mechanical watches made today.Then if you do have to sell it and you get a good return on original price paid.Then think of it as a bonus on owning and wearing that watch over those years.Now thats whats owning a Rolex is about its not just all ££££££$$$$$$$$$$ only buy if you want to own a fine watch.

It's only an investment in ones happiness if you buy and enjoy you purchase for a great number of years to come.

Historically they have retained a good portion of their monetary value. This is history and when it comes to the future there are no guarantees.
