A real hero

A REAL HERO
You're a 19 year old kid.
You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam ..
It's November 11, 1967.
LZ (landing zone) X-ray.

Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the helicopters to stop coming in.
You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out.
Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again.
s the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.
Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter.
You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.

Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you.

He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway.

Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway.

And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board.

Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety.

And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm.
He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey.

Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise , Idaho

May God Bless and Rest His Soul.

I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure heard a whole bunchabout Whitney Houston, Lindsay Lohan, Dr. Murray, that sicko Sandusky, and a 72- day sham marriage.

Shame on the media !!!

Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman

Now.. YOU pass this along.

Honor this real hero.
Please.

Capt. Ed Freeman died August 20, 2008 at the age of 80. It is INDEED a shame that people do not know about him.

With all due respect to Capt. Ed Freeman I don`t think his helicopter was the only one that flew to the rescue because the USAF forward air controller called a code phrase "broken arrow" on the morning of November 15 1965,the second day of the battle.

If you have a genuine interest in this historical event and the people who took part therein I suggest you google "Battle of Ia Drang Valley",you will find plenty to read about.

thanks for the reading... just today, perhaps we can focus on this gentleman who recently came to pass, i don't think it takes anything away from all the others who fought in the "Battle of Ia Drang Valley" or elsewhere.

it would be great if they were all remembered every day but that just doesn't happen... today it did just for a moment.

Thank you for sharing his story...we most often do not hear about the heros and heroines because they do not make sensational, shock news.....unfortunately they do not sell advertising even though their stories should be told!!!

He was definitely a war hero and I am not trying to take anything away from his amazing story but this letter is not 100% true. His death did receive considerable news attention back in 2008.

It may not have made front-page news for all newspapers, but Freeman's passing on August 20, 2008 was commemorated in a special segment on the NBC Nightly News, an AP national wire story, and obituaries published in newspapers across the country.

In addition, the post office in Freeman's hometown of McLain, Mississippi, was renamed the "Major Ed W. Freeman Post Office" in March 2009.

I was corrected.... it is an older story, the facts are real but he passed in 2008, the point is that we hear more about the movie stars and football coaches then the real people to whom we owe our real gratitude
