Question regarding Sub 5513...

Hey all -

I was walking in my neighborhood with my family today when I spotted a Sub for sale in the window of a store. I walked in and asked the guy how much he wanted and he said 5K. The watch looks to be in beautiful condition, but I'm sure it needs a service. My question to all is, if the watch is in FACT a 5513, do you think this is a reasonable price? I can probably get him down to 4200 or so by arguing the need for a service and no boxes/papers. What do you think? I'm going to try and get him to remove the bracelet and case back tomorrow after work.

Really depends on the era and state of the various parts. What's the serial range, does it have a matte dial? Original matching hands? Thick lugs? Box and papers? $5k is on the high end unless you answer yes to my previous questions. Post some photos and we can help more.

It depends on what kind of 5513 it is. If it's a gilt and it's original go for it, but that sounds like the price for a matte.

The 5513 was produced between 1962 and 1989 in three main configurations: gilt gloss dial, matte dial, and gloss dial with white gold surrounds. I look forward to seeing the pics of the one you are considering. Hopefully it is a nice example, fairly priced, and would look great on your wrist.
