Went to Rolex Canada for Regulation

Hey all.

I finally got around to visiting Rolex Canada in Toronto to have my Datejust regulated:

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=221563

I've never been there before, and I enjoyed the trip. Although I found the old HQ at 80 Richmond Ave to be a bit more sterile, and looking like what I always imaged Rolex offices would look like, the location at 50 St. Claire Ave is pretty warm, and inviting.

Altogether the wait was about an hour. When the watch was brought out to me by Kenda, I was told that Ravi had increased the motion from 225 to 275. I don't know what this means, though. I'm hoping someone here can explain this.

Right now the watch is 59 seconds behind atomic time. I'll keep an eye on it, and see what happens over the next week.

He increased amplitude by 50 degrees but the 59 seconds doesn't make sense. Rikki

Thank you, Rikki. How was the amplitude increased? Adjusting the Microstella screws?

I think he re-set the time after regulating the movement, and his time source was probably 59 seconds behind atomic time.

When I checked the watch yesterday afternoon at 3:40PM, atomic time was 3:40:00 and my watch read 3:39:01 so it was behind 59 seconds.

As of 10:40AM this morning, the movement is now running -57, so it's gained 2 seconds in 19 hours, or 0.105, (0.11) seconds per hour:

Atomic time: 10:40:00
My Watch: 10:39:03

Microstella screws are for timing, only way to increase amplitude is make sure there is ample grease on the pallet stones or decrease locking depth on pallet stones to escape wheel. Set the watch to your time source you'll probably see it gains 2 secs a day which is what I set them at after service. Rikki

Thank you for this info, Rikki. It appears they did more work than I thought they had done. I really wanted to ask what exactly was done, but they have work to do, and I didn't want to bother them with questions. I didn't want to be that guy.

I have to say I'm very impressed, especially since the work was done under the service warranty, even though the servicing was done in 2009.

And quickly too. I dropped the watch off at the service desk at 10:30. At 10:55 I was told the work would take about an hour; and the completed watch was brought out to me at 11:35.

As of 3:40 this afternoon, the movement is still -57 seconds. Pretty good, considering the movement would usually lose 5-6 seconds per day. In 28 hours it's only gained 2 seconds, or a little over 0.07 seconds per hour.

I haven't re-set the time yet, since the regulation at Rolex. I'm going to let it run as it is, and re-set the time on Sunday.

Well, it's been a week since the watch was adjusted. It has gained 10 seconds from the time the Rolex tech set it at. That's 1.4 seconds per day. Pretty damn good! I know there are watches on these forums--vintage, and new--that do much better than that, but I'm quite happy with the results.

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this, and especially Rikki

I'd really become disenchanted with watches because of so many duds I've bought over the last two years. It feels good to have a great watch again. I'd forgotten how much I really loved Rolex watches.

Just thought I'd update everyone on the timing of my 16013 adjusted by Rolex Canada.

It's been 31 days since it was adjusted, and it has gained an average of 1.2 seconds per day. I have to say that is the most accurate watch I have ever owned.

That would be good enough for me.

And it is for me

I know this might not be considered much of a grail watch for collectors, but it was the watch that got me interested in watches in general, and Rolex in particular.
