Sub may be the most iconic, but Datejust for the win?

I've gone back and forth, back and forth. Whenever I see a Submariner on someone else's wrist, I am mesmerized by its beauty and bling.

But I just can't get myself to hold onto one. And the buying and selling can get expensive.

There's something about the simplicity of the DJ. I think it's the smooth, shiny bezel (when applicable) that sings to me. While I wish it was bigger (40 mm) just not as crazy about the DJ II, where I think the proportions are funny (huge dial markers). I had a movado years ago that I loved, and I know it was for the simplicity. I also kind of like Panerai.

Curious if anyone can relate?

Damn why oh why didn't someone tell me this earlier as I wouldn't have wasted most of my Saturday afternoon trying on girls watches

I knew that sales guy was trying to pull a fast one...

Goes to show just because one can afford a Rolex does not necessarily means you have taste. Pssst....... You should have a look at Invictas I think you'll love them they are really a man's watch.

I like the Submariner like anybody else but I do have a preference for the Datejust, I find it classier but I think it still remains a watch that can be seen as casual, whether it contains gold or not.

You're entitled to your opinion but I beg to differ.

Damn I wish I was half the man you MUST be since you wear a SUb or DJII and I occasionally enjoy wearing my "girlie" datejust 1601 or, as it is the same size, it must be just as " girlie", my Day-Date 18238!

You must be a "mighty and strong man" or maybe it's just a " Thousand Oaks" thingy...

Most of the guys with this attitude/comment are out of shape little whimps over compensating for something () based on my empirical observation.

It's hard to pick any watch (not just Rolex) that is more iconic or recognizable than a DJ or tt DJ.

Profundity is not some people's strong suit.

I like my Explorer 114270 and my DJ 116200-63600, too.

I don't agree, but I will relate that my AD told me a couple weeks ago as I wandered to the portion of the Rolex display that had the Datejust 36mm's , "I sell those to women and older men about 80% of the time". He lumped the AirKings and OP's in with that DJ's. And Rolex seems to encourage them being show in their own section of the case, not in with the sports watches DJII's, etc.

Not agreeing, just saying the market trend is pretty strong for the larger Rolex models for men.

Don't shoot the messenger, please. Just saying this is what I was told.

Agreed. I own a blusey, sub tt but I'd also like to pick up a DJ, TT with champaign dial. There's just something about that DJ that sings to me. I gave my Son my brand new Sub C because It was just too big for my liking.

Wait, maybe we forgot to read the official style book for what we're not supposed to wear.
