Engagement gift

Hey guys,

My first post!
Wanted to see if you guys could help me out.
I have to pick out my engagement gift from my girl

I really want the new Datejust II 2012 but my dealer told me it probably won't come out until end of this year

So it comes down to,
Sub date or GMT II

What do you guys think?

btw this will be my first Rolex!
Thanks!

Either the SubC or GMTIIc are good choices. Comes down to taste.

Hold out for the one you want.

With this being your first Rolex make sure you love EVERYTHING about it. I am not trying to be a jerk but considering it is an engagement gift you will be stuck with it forever. Can't go wrong with a black sub. If you really want the DJ, holdout for that.

Congrats,

Mike G.

What do you wear daily? The sub is more casual DJ a little more dressy. Are you going oyster or super jubilee? What version of the DJII are you looking to get. I didnt pay any attention to the dials released this year. If its the one you want wait for it. Personally for first Rolex the SubC or GMTIIc would be my choice.

go with the SubC. You can wear it everyday.

My friend got her husband a SS Daytona Black dial for wedding gift.

Hold out for the DJII. Remember, this is a watch you will never, and I mean NEVER flip unless you're in dire financial straits. So, you've GOT to be happy and in LOVE with your choice (other than your fiance, of course). So, get what you really want and you'll be thrilled with it forever.

I would get the SubC! Astonishing piece, a classic in every collection, and a historically symbolic watch that would pretty much suit an important life event.

Submariner = classic and iconic.

I like the GMT IIc however as a first Rolex and being a special gift occasion I suggest the Subariner, if you dont want to wait for the DJ II

So this afternoon I went to the Rolex dealer on 53rd and Madison to try on the watches.
Apparently according to the sales guy this stores has the biggest selection in NYC.
I asked them about the new 2012 DJ II, they told me it's coming out in September.
I think I'll go with the Sub or GMT II.

Sub date or no date? The sales guy told me he loves the no date and told me the history of the watch hahaha

Sub Date... call it a day. This is your first Rolex... probably the most meaningful. Make it count.

GMTIIC as your #2.

I know waiting can seem like an eternity..

If you can't hold out I'd go with a ceramic Sub.
Congrats on the engagement.

Sub date & GMT II are both great watches, can't go wrong with either. However, I would have to agree with the others in saying wait & get the watch you really want. If you really want the DJII & settle on a Sub date or GMT II, you will always want the DJII. Might as well make your first Rolex, the one your future wife is buying for you the most special in my opinion.

You can't go wrong with either one but my choice would be the GMT II C because everyone has a Sub and I really like that 2nd hour hand and it actually comes in handy for me.

Go to an AD and try both and see which one you like more.

Have had the GMT iic for quite a number of years now and still love it. The dial and ceramic bezel just look perfect together.
