Novice buyer needs help
Hi
I want to buy a Rolex for my daughter but can't find an official price list on the web for the USA. The AD seems reluctant to let me see a price list. They tell me the prices are increasing circa 9% very soon but not certain when and I should buy ASAP. Should I be able to get any discount on a watch costing $15,000. Many thanks in anticipation astonhall |

There's no reason for an AD not to provide you with the price list upon your request. MSRP isn't a closely held secret. Try a different AD.
And it's true that prices will only go up, so there's no downside to buying in the near future vs. later if you're buying new. |

What I do is pop to watchfinder's website and find the exact model.
They show the current UK MRSP. If it's a £15k ladies watch then I'm guessing all-gold. Expect a 25% discount from an AD or 50% discount preowned since the residuals on the ladyjusts are not so good.

You're in the drivers seat buying a watch like that, a nice discount should be had and insisted upon..........Take your time, the price increase nonsense is a used car type sales tool that is insulting IMO....

Hmm. I thought I had posted the price list here already in the thread.

No one can tell you if there will be a MSRP increase. Recently, there was a wholesale price increase, so that may may mean no MSRP increase this Spring, but no one knows for sure.
Here's a May 2011 price list that is the current official price list. The general rule of thumb is buy now. It's just a gamble to try and wait to the last minute before the ever looming price increase that may or may not occur. http://minus4plus6.com/rolex-pricelists.htm

Thanks to all and especially for the price list.
The AD I am trying to deal with says no dealer will give any discount on a new watch as if they are found out they lose the brand. I know I got 10% discount on a Cellini a couple of years ago but they said that has now stopped and no AD will give a discount at all even in today's market. Is that true? astonhall |

My local AD gives me a 10% discount on anything i enquire about without even asking as I have bought 2 watches from them previously. They were offering me 25% off a DJ platinum which is stock they had for a while and wanted to move.
Guess it depends on the watch (unless a Daytona SS) and the relationship you have. This is what I have experienced so far. |

It depends on the AD and your relationship. I have been in multiple ADs that would not budge on price but my local AD will give me 10%.

Thanks to all for your help.
My AD refuses to give me a price list but thanks to the forum I have that information. There is only one AD in my city so I suppose they feel they have control unless I want to travel further afield. I want to build a relationship locally so I might have more luck on my next purchase. astonhall |

What the OP says about discounts is true in the UK - officially.
You still get discounts but they are padded/not so obvious. On gold 15 -20% should be reasonable. I heard from a seller on another forum that Rolex has been known to compare credit card transactions to sales receipts. Personally I am not sure where this stands legally , at least in Europe. As far as I know , one company cannot dictate the level of discounting/selling price of their goods. Effectively it is price fixing. But I would assume they have this angle covered somehow. Maybe they do not word it as price fixing , but if you do it , it may become difficult RO Renee your contract next time around. Don't know but curious. |

MSRP is short for Manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price
