I fell in Love...With a Panerai

I had the pleasure of selling a PAM 005 for a friend today. I got the watch from him last night, posted it, and boom its gone by the morning.

Little did I know that I would fall in love with a PAM. It was different. It was bold, It was heavy. I loved the look. Even my wife said, "hey thats the prettiest watch you have owned..." Im like what? How can this Tank over shadow my GMTIIC?

I dont like the 005. I have something specific that I want. The 005 was pretty but I have an itch.. and these are it...

I want a PAM with...

1.) Luminor case
2.) basic 3 6 9 12
3.) Sanwich Dial
4.) Clear case back
5.) Crown Guard

Now my research brings me to PAM 112 and 176... Are there any more with these features?

There is one for sale 3800 but watch only no papers or box or silocone strap. Too much for me.

I can't find it in the for sale section here.
Maybe my search skills are lame.

If it's legit I could be interested.

Go for 112. Polished steel is always better.

Yes, in a non-1950s case, you have identified the two that match your criteria.

Get the 112 if you liked the weight of the 005. Here's my old 176, it's a g serial though so painted dial anything from j will have sandwich dial.

I'm in love with her big-boned sister, PAM 372, although we haven't met in person yet. For the time being, I've only been able to look at her photos and love her from afar....

As mentioned previously, the 112 - 111 - 176 - 177 models would be a good start for your first steps into the world of Panerai.

The 372 is THE only modern Panerai you need!

End of.

The transitional 1950 case is a masterpiece

..... but I'd also like to throw the 422 into the mix.

I ordered one already

I've worn Rolex for the last 6 years, rarely ever receiving a comment or compliment. In stark contrast, I've had my PAM for half a year or so now & constantly hear "That is a beautiful watch, who makes it?". Even family members that never mentioned or cared about my watches before LOVE my PAM & go out of their way to check it out. Rolex makes a great watch but Panerai is uniquely special.

Advice, if you are getting your first Panerai don't get a 6497 movement watch unless it has box and papers. To easy to fake.

If you can rock a 47mm, I'd strongly suggest a 372. If you must have a sandwich dial, then 112, but I really love painted (aka sausage) dials on 44mm Luminors. The numbers are so fat and delicious.

Here is a side by side of a new 112 v older 112.

mmmmmm.....painted luminors....

The 176 and 177 are my favorite PAMs because they are so light and comfortable. With a Micah strap, my 177 weighs in at only 108 grams. You can wear the watch all day and forget about it. I also prefer the darker brushed finish of the Titanium. Good choice!

I am very happy with my 177 I purchased a couple months ago. Barely notice the weight on my wrist

I like the second hand....i just wish I had a date on it, but the 312 was too busy for my taste with the second hand numeral 9

I have no idea why one poster said dont get the 6497 as they are easy to fake- um no they are not. Nobody is going to get fooled by a replica 6497. I do agree 100% that sausage dials are worlds better than sandwich dials. Thats a fact.

Compared to in-house movements like Rolex and some Panerai, 6497's are easy to fake as you can buy a high grade real 6497 for about $300.

None of which use any of the same patterns or markings as Panerai. Well, cept if you are unfortunate enough to have a 318

111 or 112, depending on whether or not you want the small seconds sub-dial...
