New Rolex Boutique in NYC.

Went to the new Rolex Boutique yesterday in NYC. It's located at the Rolex Building on Fifth Ave. Sorry, I don't have pictures to include regarding what it looks like. Pretty much every Rolex under the sun (save for the new Sky-Dweller) can be found there. I was quite impressed with everything. Only been open for a week. Staff was very helpful and nice. Just getting ideas on the type of Rolex I will buy my wife in a few years. She too was impressed with the store. It was kinda strange that the door was locked and a guard had to open it up to let you in or out of the store. Nothing wrong with being extra secure. If your in that neighborhood, go check it out. I think you'll like what you see.

This will give them a chance to line up the customers for the big Sky-Diddy launch a'la Apple stores!

It is a good plan for the brand to have flagships that ADs can try to emulate.

This would be awful...
Plus, even in N.Y there would only be 20 people in line. It would most likely be the potential owner's assistants anyway.

I still have no love for the Sky-Dweller

I would love to visit the boutique though...

I dunno - could make for interesting video on 6pm News.

The headline - "Rolex lovers stampede guards at the gate of new 5th Avenue boutique"

Nothing that unusual, this practice is in use at a number of Rolex stores. Smash and grabs happen quite often at a number of Rolex stores, this helps to reduce those occurances.

They are not the only Rolex dealer in NYC that keeps a locked door, nor only jeweler for that matter.

Stopped by the store today. They have the largest inventory I've ever seen. Its a bit of a stab to Tourneau and other NYC AD's that they allowed the Rolex boutique in the Rolex building to be owned/operated by Wempe.

People go in there thinking its owned and operated by Rolex USA since it's in their building

especially when just a couple blocks away, the Tourneau store on Madison has what essentially appears to be a Rolex boutique as the Rolex has it's own "store" and entry separate from the remaining store.

Will check out this weekend.

Wempe, in my experience, has much better customer service than Tourneau.

I was there on Tuesday, I believe, to drop off my sub for service......Did any one else notice the older woman with the SS white daytona, the guy with the SS black daytona and the other guy with the YG YMII?? Also, every girl working there in the 20-30's range was SMOKING hot...just saying.

As if I wasn't already looking forward to the visit I have planned for Saturday.

i was there in nyc last weekend and visited the store on the rainy sunday afternoon. honestly, i wasn't very impressed with their staff. given that they used to work at the big t down the street. the person who helped me wasn't very friendly, and in my opinion, not very professional. i stood there the whole time, but he sat down and didn't even offer me a seat. the store was smaller than i thought it'd be because they had a HUGE cover outside to its opening. i was impressed with the fact that they have a rolex watchmaker onsite (dressed in suit, too). i do like the high ceilings and amount of selections they have. but i always think it's the people that makes the store. it wasn't a very good first time experience for me, i must say.

There were three sales persons, all women. All of them wearing a 36mm Datejust. If its like the Panerai boutique, they wear watches from stock. Tried on a few watches. They had quite a few Daytonas but none in SS. The lady helping me was very nice and very attractive but I would guess in her 40's. She commented on my Daytona so I asked if they had a black face but she said no.

It's an amazing store and they are going RO do well. That said even with as many that hat Tourneau and other ADs try have their customers. They will all still have their customers and will all survive.

Alright I just went in here today for the first time (was on business and just got back to the city)

Impressions: Clean store, but felt a little bit like a coffin inside for some reason. The nicest person in the place was the guy opening the door for customers. The staff, IMO, was sub-par; several times while I was viewing watches one of the gentleman workers would come up to the case and kind of look at me like "are you going to move so I can open this case, because you are in my way"

Great selection though, nice to see the variety in all the Dj dials. I will surely stop in from time to time, but I was very un-impressed with the staff they hired.

Are you sure that wasn't preceded by "excuse me" few times that you didn't hear or just ignored?

I find it almost impossible that an employee at any store would be that rude.

Trust me, this was the rudest gentleman I have ever encountered in a watch store.

Now I know why I always go to DavidSW for my Rolex watches.

It's sad really, that they don't have more passionate staff hired for this, a ROLEX boutique.

Went there yesterday, followed by a visit the IWC boutique. Talk about two completely different experiences!

Rolex: a small space with simply too many people inside led to an uncomfortable feeling of confinement. Each of the sales staff seemed to be juggling a couple different clients. There was somewhat a frenzy in the air as the staff rushed from display case to counter to display case to counter to show off different watches.

IWC: open, airy, accommodating. One staff member dedicated well over 25min alone showing me the various Portuguese models (chrono, 7-day, etc). It's an amazingly well-decorated and uniquely-styled boutique, I'd recommend anyone check it out. In contrast, the Rolex boutique could be the insides of any other jeweler.

The two have different goals. Richemont owns/operates the IWC boutique, so it's goal is to promote the brand. Wempe owns/operates the "Rolex Boutique" so it's goal is to sell inventory to chinese tourists. This leads to very different customer experiences.

The new TWC store is operated by Tourneau here. It is also smaller. Its next to the cartier store which is much larger (they also stock their jewelry as well)

Sad to hear the atmosphere is subpar...but let's be honest....New York isn't known for its warm/fuzzy customer service.
