which would you buy... SD vs Exp II 42

I have the opportunity to buy a BNIB 16600 from a AD. Would you buy this classic or go for a Exp II/Millgauss/Sub C basically any new model at around the $6250 mark. I probably won't wear any of them as I love my DSSD too much. BUT they would be nice to have, so really my question is which do you think is the most collectible?

None will be rare or collectable. I saw a BNIB SD a few months ago. The SD has been discontinued for several years and there are tons for sale. If you aren't wearing it don't buy it. Be careful what you say. I wore a DSSD Daily for 3 years got my SubC and have worn the DSSD 7-8x since August (though I wore it today). I had the chance at a SD and picked the SubC.

If you could get a SubC or ExpII 42 at $6250 you won't lose anything. I've never seen either at even close to that price though. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question.

I gotcha. You were saying a SubC expII or any other watch around the price of $6250. I'd try them on. You might fall in love.

Exp II or Milgauss for something different. You already have DSSD. I don't see how you would want to switch to between that and a SD. Gunter is right...SD is not a rare thing...

A BNIB SD would be my choice......not to many of those left new!!
The EXPII could Be acquired at anytime easily enough.

That is only my opinion of course!

The SD was my grail Rolex but it lost out to my Planet Ocean Liquidmetal LE.

Since you have the DS, I would go with the 216570. I'm loving mine.

Exp II (42mm) would be a great stablemate for your DSSD

I would find it hard to pass up a BNIB 16600.

I would doubt if any modern day Rolex will be collectible the SD is my favourite sports watch but being collectible no.Far to many around since the 16600 launch in 1988 there has been very little change.Except the switch from Tritium to Luminover and few few very minor fonts and cosmetic details and different case stamps and that's it.And myself just cannot see any point in buying any Rolex watch if you are not going to wear it.

Thanks PADI, I understand your point, BUT I think a lot of watches around the world are bought not for practical reasons. I think a lot of purchases are made because of the feel good factor and not only watches, people love to buy things for what they are and how they make you smile. Ok so due to the vast number of modern watches made and sold, which Rolex would YOU buy to be a worthy addition to your collection?

I would definately go for the Sea Dweller. New in box is pretty rare anymore for a Sea Dweller. The others will be around and you could buy them anytime. If you are wondering if you would wear the Sea Dweller because you already have a Deep Sea, I can tell you that I also have both and wear both. They are different enough that I enjoy them both.
