116234 Steel/WG Datejust vs. 116200

OK, I admit this is an old subject and has been discussed before. I like both, but can't decide. Which do you prefer?

116200 Steel Datejust, smooth bezel, Oyster bracelet:

116234 Steel/White Gold Datejust, fluted bezel, Jubilee bracelet:

Thank you!
John

I am an AP and Panerai user but if I'd go for Rolex, I will prefer the date-just but the blue-dial, oyster band

SS oyster bracelet, smooth bezel, & white roman numerals is a very stunning Rolex to me.

I really like the pictures of a DJ with smooth bezel & PCL-oyster, but when I see it in person I always think the standard fluted+jubilee is a better look.

I thought so as well and that is why I went with this one:

I do not care for the jubilee bracelet and believe the domed bezel to be more harmonious with the oyster.

Although my DJ was chosen for dress/formal wear, I went with SS which is more durable and scratch resistant than the softer WG.

Steel/WG does it for me

I see the DJ as more of a dress watch, so the fluted bezel (a lovely thing) and Jub bracelet works better imho

fluted and jubilee. The way light is reflected from the fluted bezel is wonderful.

Silver Dial is my favourite, I picked jubilee/fluted. If I had to choose again, I'm not sure which of the two I'd pick. Love the super jubilee, but it is quite dressy.

Joker I love that Datejust! I wore the exact watch for about 5 years. I did everything with it, ocean, gardening, you name it, and after 5 years the watch looked brand new! I kept it clean with soap and warm water. That's it. This is the biggest distinction between jubilee and oyster. Between 116234 with jubilee and 116220 with oyster. The jubilee bracelet DOES NOT Show signs of wear. It is amazing in this regard. Now, as good as the jubilee is as far as minimizing/eliminating signs of wear, the oyster with polished center links is equally bad.

I wore my DJII for three months (with oyster bracelet of course) and the bracelet looked like it was 5 years old. Those PCL's really scratch up easily. There is nothing you can do to stop it. You can only hope to ignore it.

Now, some people don't mind these scratches. Some will say that it looks good when so many scratches blend together that you can't even notice them. The oyster with PCLs is a stunning bracelet.

However, if you are at all like me, crazy, compulsive, obsessive, DO NOT get an oyster bracelet with PCLs. If your like me, that watch will be up for resale on the WTB board in a matter of months :)

While these are only MHO's, they are tested observations, as I have owned two oysters with PCLs. I managed to convince myself that those scratches wouldn't bother me on the DJII because I loved the size so much, the bezel so much. Boy was I wrong! And I'm paying the price.

Good thing a trusted seller on the forum gave me a fair price for it, but it was a hard lesson to relearn.

I am now in the market for a tt DJ, 36mm 116231.

Hope this helps, just analyze how obsessive/compulsive you are about your watches/scratches...

And don't say we didn't warn you! LOL! :)

Yeah must admit, I had for a year and a half and to my eyes still looks brand new, and the jubilee hasn't got a mark on it.

I like the blue dial 116200, but don't care for the roulette date wheel... Silver would be my second pick...

Fluted with jubilee for me. Love it with the stick indexes.
Not a big fan of the newer polished center links on the oyster.
Domed or fluted work for me on the 5-digit model numbered DJs.

I have the 116234 Stainless Steel/White Gold Datejust with a fluted bezel and Super Jubilee bracelet. I think it's a classic that will age well.

Can someone tell (or show) me the difference between the Jubilee and Super Jubilee bracelets?

Thanks.
