Icon5 Question regarding AD discount on AP

Hi,

Since I'm saving for my first AP and I'm only 21 years old I'm looking to get it for the best price as possible (new). I saw alot of people here talking about discount at an AD. I guess you guys mean that it is possible to get a discount on the manufacturer's suggested retail price? I got my eye on the AP ROO Safari "Ref: 26170ST.OO.D091CR.01" and I'm located in Belgium (Antwerp)

What would be a fair price for this piece? (I wanna buy only new in sealed bag)
Another question regarding "new" I visited some sites that sell "unworn" models but the watch is not sealed anymore on photos, is this normal?
Any reference sites I can visit to get a better idea about different models with prices? (preferred in EURO)

Thanks in advance for helping.

Hi there. I'm also saving for my first AP (maybe also Safari). I enquired with one of the forum sellers to get an idea of price and he said $18500 for BNIB so that might be one route to think about as well as an AD.

Buy from an AD and expect 15-20% discount at the most.

Even if buying from AD, you probably won't get it sealed in the bag unless you order it.

x2

You could probably get 15-20% discount at an AD, All depends on relationship, And how their stock looks like and how the month are looking in figures on that brand.

No relationship with an AD at all (only 2 in Belgium), will be my first high end watch. Anyways, I will see what I can do over a year or two.

@Thomas: Yes I calculated some things and I think I wont need to wait 5 years.

Hi,
As with Antwerp being close to the German border, I can only recommend sime contacts.

Check Uhrinstinkt.de, Miquel, on the internet, or Rüschenbeck in Cologne/Köln.

Will do for a discount of 20plus.

In the US, I'm pretty sure you can easily get 20-25% off at my AD.

Not sure why the sealed bag is important to you but most ADs take them out when they get one. I've seen 1 AP sealed and it was because one was already on display. APs can almost always be had with a discount. After the discount prices are fairly stable. The limited editions are another story. I put a down payment on an AP to pick up in June. 20% or better can be had with some searching. I'm shipping out of state as well to a state with no tax. If you take tax into account I've seen 25%+ discounts.

I feel the prices where I am in Belgium are much higher then the USA. If I take the MSRP here in Belgium for the AP ROO Safari which is in EURO 21.060,00 - 20% = EURO 16.848,00 which is 21.821,16 in USD.

I will get ripped of here. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The dollar has also dramatically devalued.....unless you're buying from the states, comparing prices after exchange rates will only add to your road rage.

VAT/sales tax in Europe applies only to new items, not 2nd hand, even if BNIB/LNIB.

Hi John, I'm not sure about that (but not a VAT expert so happy to be corrected). See HMRC link http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/start/schemes/margin.htm

Russ, thanks for the link!

It's a complicated issue for the end purchaser, but I'm led to believe the upshot is that you cannot reclaim the VAT on departure from the EU. I've spoken to 2 London and 1 German dealer who all said that the margin scheme meant not detailing the VAT paid on the final receipt, leaving one unable to reclaim on exit from the EU. I live just outside of the EU and tend to claim all my VAT back whenever possible, and at over £1k on a Daytona, it's well worth it! I wanted to on a numer of AP's...

Cheers, John

Yes. In the last 2 weeks I've been offered dicsounts at two AP dealers in London. One would give me 20% off and the other would give me 22.5% off - just for asking.

Hi John, do you have a relationship with those ADs or were you offered that discount just walking in? I enquired with an AD in Leeds at the weekend and they would not give me any discount at all. Thanks.

Hey Russ. No relationship, just walked in. The dealer in Edinburgh spoke about 15% recently, but I know I can get an easy 20% for haggling and showing a 'prepared to purchase that day' attitude. I wouldn't use a dealer that was hard and fixed on price.

I suppose the problem is that AP's don't keep their initial value too well, unless it's a low-volume Ltd Ed...

The AD in vancouver would give you 20% off without too much haggling, but you are right, stock is limited.

In the diamond district we have APs at pretty decent discounts new. Hublot discounts are event better (excluding big bang). It varies from model to model though.
