Characteristics of an SS Daytona Man
Now I was a devoted Boy Scout.... and a scout, as you know, is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, brave, thrifty, kind, clean and reverent. I think that is how the cool aid drink was burned into my psyche.....But a good cool aid drink it is I suppose, as such values do help a person in life, and continue to guide me.
Now, that is why I don't dick around with jamming my AD for big discounts. Heck, he will send me clients. I don't need to save $500. I get a client from him and I make 10 time that on a bad day. So why should I not be a boy scout with my AD and let him make a little profit at MRSP or at 5% if offered. So I was thinking, knowing Tom and his loyalty, that if you are an SS owner, you either did a dumb thing and spent 12K at a grey dealer, or you were a good and patient AD customer, and got it for list. And so some of the positive qualities of an SS Daytona owner, in my mind, are: patience, loyalty, and generosity. So maybe the quest for an SS Daytona obtained via AD includes a mini values lesson. I do respect Tom (Kansaivet) and Blue Bull greatly as I know how long they waited and toiled in the valley.... and how much business they gave their dealers. That is probably the case for anyone who "gets the call" for the wonderful watch. |

You may want to cut back on the "cool aid".

I also guess I share one of the positive characteristics - appreciation of fine craftsmanship and by extension good taste |

Well if i really wanted a daytona i would not wait. I would try to find a grey dealer with a new daytona. Waiting lists drive me crazy.

Another dumb grey market guy here. What the heck is your point?? We should all wait for the AD so we can buy at a premium? Somehow that's a benefit to us....

I think what he is saying is to do the things he mentioned so that you can buy one at MSRP from an AD and not at a premium.

What he is trying to say is that it takes loyalty, patience and perseverence as well as the old Boy Scout Oath values of being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, brave, thrifty, clean and reverent in order to finally get a SS Daytona from an AD at MSRP.
You gotta put your time in, pay your dues, be loyal, kind, trustworthy and all of the above in order to have your AD honor you with one. Sucks kinda I know, but that is the way. Or go grey or second hand and pay a premium. |

Three Daytonas. All at MRSP,from two ADs.Time waited, respectively was ... 7 days,2 days and 8 days, after enquiery. The first white and the black was from an AD which I have NEVER done business with and whom I have never refered anyone too.I never really waited and therefore never had time to toil.I am not really loyal, because I buy where I get the best deal.I am patient in the sense that I can wait for the best deal.I am ruthless when it comes to discounts,Daytonas excluded. The one with cash in hand is the King.I have never been the equivolent of a Boy Scout.Obviously,I dont buy at more than MRSP.Obedient ?? Now heres a theory for you.I invite you to test it and I will be glad if you can prove me wrong.Daytonas are scarce, but not that scarce .... Where does your ADs Daytonas disappear too ??? The Boy Scout grey dealers ?? Just where do the greys get their stockpile of ss Daytonas from ?? The ADs. One or two ... a year ?? That'll be the day. They get a bit more than that ..... I know. |

At least the cool aid I drink is not religion or politics. That is where most of the cool aid is drunk in America.
But, what I was trying to say is that if I see a guy wearing an SS Daytona I can have 2 conclusions: (1) He paid too much money or (2) he is the valued customer of an AD...which means he is part of business community and is a person of some significance in that cummunity. That is basically all I was trying to say. I just would never pay more than list for anything, so the way not to is do the boy scout thing with one's AD. I think Blue Bull's experience to the contrary is unique to SA, and is not common in the states. |

There was meant to be some facetiousness in my original post with the boy scout stuff.....I mean really, rattling that stuff that got wood burned into my head 35 years ago....I have an odd sense of humor and sorry if I offended. I did not mean that any of you were dumb, so to some of you I apologize.
I think I could have started the post without the boy scout creed and it could have read as follows: What are the characteristics of an SS Daytona man. It is an exclusive club that takes a lot of patience, AD loyalty and social presence. At least it seems that way to me cause how else do you get one for MRSP other than paying a grey dealer through the nose? |

I thought the main characteristic was someone who doesn't need a DATE on a watch?
