Bracelets

Can anyone tell me why Rolex makes some bracelets with tabs on the backside and others without. I borrowed these pics from posting on the forum

Are you talking about the endlinks? The one above is non-sel, the one below is sel.

Yes ,I am talking about the end links. So, non SEL has the ears and SELs don't? Is this correct?

Well, maybe a bit more than that. An sel is the last link in the bracelet where it attaches between the lugs. It's an integral part of the bracelet. I want to say they were phased into the line circa 2000 or so, with the exception of the SD (16660) which had them all along.
A non-sel is a V shaped piece (endlink) held to the bracelet via the springbar. The "tabs" rest against the back of the case.

Also, notice how the non-sel appears to be two pieces at the center link joining the case,



Where as the SEL appears solid,

Here ya go...some more pics to explain the difference between SEL links and the NON-SEL ones.

SEL link...without butterfly extensions...



NON-SEL with butterfly extensions...



And a view from the back. Top one is SEL, bottom one is non-SEL.
