Has your taste in watches changed

Since buying your first luxury watch has your taste in watches changed or evolved in any way.

Well, i use to love my patek, i never took it off. Had the lovely little thing on my wrist even to work. But then, i layed my eyes on this swedish design sjöö sandström. Very neat and light watch. Suits me when iam off to work. I recently sold my patek. Didnt hunger for it at all. Set my eyes on omega. The speedmaster ladies watch. Wow. That one is for keep. But once on my wrist never again, its way to heavy not so big though but heavy. Iam longing for a rolex midsize yachtmaster...or a datejust, but..i also want..i cant make up my mind. But in the end..iam wearing my sjöö sandström, i love that watch.

Cecilia it sounds to me like your swedish design sjöö sandström maybe your answer no matter how many others you may try.

However it's always fun trying different things from time to time.

Yes, I don't have as much desire to wanting to get any more Rolex watches at the moment. I think I have branched out to other watch companies.

Was at a Basel & Gevena watch event dinner the other night, I didn't even see and play with those new Rolex pieces from Basel 2012.....

I think I'd probably want to "concentrate" on limited edition or difficult to get pieces from now on

Who really knows

I would say that my taste in watches has changed since I bought my first Rolex.

Rolex is my only luxury watch, but since buying the first Rolex, my standards and tastes have changed considerably.

yes, a lot. when i received my dj for my graduation, i found it boring and scarcely ever wore it . i almost swaped it for something sportier. now i am very happy that i didin't do it.
even a short time ago i would have said that i'd never buy a tt or a yellow gold watch, now i appreciate some.
even a short time ago i thought that patek was for older gentlemen. now maybe i got really old very fast or my taste has evolved.....

I now stay away from anything that is large and attention grabbing. Owned a Bentley/Breitling once and loved that watch. Now I laugh at myself for owning one....

I used to just look at what looked "nice" to me....now, I obsessively think about every detail and learn all there is to know. Don't know if it's better now.

So do I, but I'm also getting my eyes opened towards JLC, Panerai (even if I think they are too large), Patek, AP etc.

Rolex are awesome watches, but perhaps not the end of the rainbow.

one has to define luxury, it can be diff for diff people. my definition has changed over the years.

for me any swiss brand new watch over 4700 msrp in todays money is a luxury watch! but i think some grand seiko's are pretty badass and can be bought for cheaper.

My taste has changed a lot.

I started my Watch digging' days with a Camel trophy chrono when I was about 10 YO.

Bought a RADO when I was 19, evolved towards divers. Now hooked on mechanical divers. Would probably never buy a quartz watch again.

One strange thing is that I have grown back to loving leather bands, I had a period in between when I thought a watch cannot have a leather band, it must be steel/metal.

Yes, my taste has evolved in the way that I learn of more and more watches and their history and heritage which makes me appreciate a wider variety of styles. But my style is still lowkey and discret with high quality.

For me it has gone from wanting to own the be all and end all of watches which for me was a Rolex sub, to owning several different pieces/brands and even jumping dial shapes, materials and straps/bracelets.

Up until 5 years ago I would have considered myself a watch agnostic and thought that my grail watch, the sub, would extingish the fire I had for a 'high end' watch and once I had reached the milestone of owning a ROLEX, I could move onto other non watch related things.

Alas, 7 watches later, it seems the 'grail' purchase had the reverse effect and fueled my fire even more.

I have gone from Longines, to Tag, to Rolex, to Omega, to Panerai, to JLC, to Rolex and most probably from there to PP, VC and/or AP.

Is this an evolution? Maybe. Has my taste changed? Possibly.
The only definite change has been the increasing outlay in $$$ per purchase (and enjoying every minute of it!)

No.

I still love the way the Day/Date looks in yellow gold: especially when barked.
