the Rolex I would like to buy

I don't fly a plane, dive underwater, climb mountains, or race cars.
Instead of sports specific watch designs, I would like Riolex to introduce a general sports watch. Something for the football, soccer, baseball, tennis , golf players and fans.
Ideally it would me a 36mm to 40mm size. Basic looking clean dial similar to an Air King or Explorer. Add an updated version of the engine turned bezel, or something similar to give the watch a rugged, sporty look. Offer this one with three dial color versions; red, blue, and yellow. Oyster bracelet.
Brand new model and concept here, maybe call it the Rolex "Activa".
Do you guys and girls like the idea ?

A Rolex yogurt? :-) (there is a health yogurt out there called Activa)

I honestly think that the Explorer would fit the look very well, they would need to add some colors to the dial. Could be fun, I'm all for it. Much better idea than all the bling or super-sized stuff they've been putting out lately.

I am not married to the name "Activa", just tossed it out there as a possibility.
I think Rolex should be introducing a new concept and model name. As a concept, "general sports watch" makes sense. I would buy one.

I think Rolex success is, at least partly, due to the fact that they have clear cut lines between the models. The Submariner and GMT have been used by professionals for many decades, which has made them popular for the general population. There are very few other examples outside Rolex I can think of, one is of course Omega Speedmaster. Why? Because it was used by astronauts (not that is was intended for them in the first place, but you get the point). Back to Rolex, of the Oysters that was designed for a specific reason, you can use it to play golf, tennis, whatever, because they are that tough.

There are models that, AFAIK, doesn't have a purpose, like the Oyster Perpetual, Perpetual date. They are sport watches, but not really popular, because there is no exciting history behind them. I have an Exp2, made for spelunking. I never bought that backstory, always seemed manufactured to me, I did buy the watch though I have yet to spend a weekend in a cave, but I like the watch.

For me general sport watches are Royal Oak, Nautilus and Overseas, because if you are a fan of those watch houses and you need a watch for activities you can't put on any old Patek. With Rolex you can.

I had not considered that the historical origins of a watch model were important to consumers.
For myself, I am interested in staying true to a watch's original design purpose.
That is precisely why I selected an OP, because it was the one model which I saw as a "general usage, everyday watch". The only other models I considered were DJ and DD, but I did not want a date function. All the current professional models are designed for sports or professions which do not apply to me.
But if Rolex offered a general sports watch, I would buy one.

I don't fly a plane either but use my GMT consistently to navigate time zones of business associates not to mention helping when I travel.

Truth be told I would doubt if 95% of all Rolex plus any other sports watch are used for what they were intended for. Many on this plus other forums are afraid to even get them wet,or wear them for say playing golf. So what is a sports watch today, as most Rolex watches get a very pampered life,so perhaps today they should rename then to the non professional watches.
