Icon7 Rolex Fans Sit & Relax Before Running to Other Brands!

With news of the price increases it appears that many TRF Rolex horology fans are upset! Please keep in mind that as compared to the four major horology houses (Vacheron, Patek, Lange & Sohne, and Audemars) we are still getting a bargain. Take for instance the 116718 is now priced at retail over $30k, however, when compared to the Audemar 25721BA which comes in at $98k retail the value for our hard earned dollars is evident!

I know the timepieces I've given as an example have different functions and are of the precious metal variety yet you can draw the same conclusion with any of the SS examples.

Don't let the price increase get you upset! There are always deals to be found everywhere! Happy watch hunting!

I agree. Every price increase illicits "Rolex has price themselves out of my range."

Wait and read "Incoming" posts.

Rolex raises prices almost every year. We should all be accustom to that by now.

Look at the price of beef or fresh vegetables - they aren't going down.

Just my opinion and nothing else.

I have to agree Larry...and Sam!

It seems this latest increase by Rolex has caused a shock horror, almost a riot amongst the many WIS's we have here...?
Thing is, this happens every year, with almost all consumables and luxuries (yes Rolex included), yet the consensus is shocked??

This is something that will continue, for all watch brands and not limited to Rolex only. Get use to it everyone, it's only going to happen again, and again, and again, and again......

Exactly Rob! And when it does we will have a string of threads just like we always do--again, and again, and again.

Agree. The ones that I find interesting are the "Rolex has priced itself out of the market, how are they going to survive loosing loyal customers."

Just because I can't buy their watches anymore does not mean Mr. Rolex and his charities will starve to death!

Even more interesting are the "Well they are too expensive now - a stainless steel watch for $12k is outrageous, I will buy Patek and AP from now on!"

As you say the incomings will keep coming, and new members will keep arising. Rolex will keep on ticking just fine!

Sooo a SS Patek Aquanaut 5167 costs "how much"??? And the whiners are bitching about a $12K DSSD? SS AP RO's and ROC's are going for how much now? They still command a premium and had I wanted them before, I would have gotten them before. No reason a recent price change would send me running to them more so than it ever had in the past...

I guess I'm all new to this because I'm a very new Rolex customer (less than a month old), but have been a PP and AP customer for years. So, I just am trying to understand the evident frustration...

Inflation...excessive inflation perhaps, but then again, Rolexes aren't necessities either. I'm pretty sure that if profits fall as a result of the frequent price increases, they will slow down. As for me, I'm sticking to buying from the current pool of zillions of used rolexes out there.

Agreed...no reason to overreact, jump ship, curse Rolex etc...it'll all work out in the end. Moreover, chances are all the other brands are going to increase their prices as well, and the cycle begins anew...

Thanks Sam.

You've kept your Audemars on the Down low haven't you. It's a beauty.

I think people should remember the value of foresight. Even if you go out tomorrow and buy a new watch, in two years you will see the price increase then and think "wow what a bargain". Don't even get me started on 10 years.

Hi Jay, please note that this specific Audemars is not mine, it is a piece I tried on at the Audemar boutique in NY, I own a simple SS black dial 26170ST... With that said another SS comparison for everyone is the Audemars Pride of Mexico which my wife adores and wanted because of the green elements. The P.O.M. reference retails for over $40k USD and personaly speaking I feel that more value would be in the Sky Dweller at that price point. I was ecstatic when she confiscated my GV Milgauss which now retails for less than $10k USD! Ladies and gents the Rolex value is and will always be there!

Ah yes that makes more sense.

Your wife has good taste in watches and seems to like the colour green.

The very fact that there are such regular and fairly substantial increases is the very reason why the brand continues to have such remarkable resale value on the market. I for one am glad of the increases. I'm probably good with my one sub c for some time, but I'm not annoyed that when I want to purchase another model I'll have to pay more than I would yesterday or today. We're talking about luxury goods here, not staples of life. It's not a moral or ethical thing at all... It's the business of luxury products and the markets they deal in.

The Gold AP is not mine... Schwarzenegger aka my 26170ST is the only Audemar reference I own which is really my "work out" watch when I am jogging. Though the craftsmanship is there with my AP, I still very much favor my Rolex timepieces to it!

Sean, I understand your frustration... This thread is not about other brands but to show folks that despite the recent Rolex price increase Rolex still maintain their value and brand integrity! There are many mint preowned Rolex references that can be purchased on this very Forum that will save you a boat load of cash. Living in Dubai I am certain you see the consumption of luxury items by some of the natives and tourist, prices may be high for you and I yet folks still buy. As with any intangible item or commodity if you really want it and keep at your goal you will eventually be able to acquire it! Good luck and I look forward to one of your incoming threads in the future! All the best!

My source says there's actually another price increase in 2 weeks. The plan was apparently to completely alienate Rolex's fan base, and cause them to flock to more expensive brands.

Only to discover they too are overpriced, and enjoy regular price increases. Then when they flock back, they'll appreciate Rolex all the more.

My source is never wrong.

On a serious note, I suppose if, for example, a Rolex Sub ended up priced within $2000 of an AP ROO Diver, or a Nautilus, then I might consider moving upstream, and yet, from what I hear, it would be a step down in accuracy, robustness, and reliability, or at best, sideways.

The thing I find odd about a watch like the AP ROO Diver is, mostly it's the movement and its finishing you're paying double the price of a Sub C for, even at the new 8550 price. And that pretty mvt that mostly, arguably, justifies the $18,000+ price is completely hidden behind a solid case back. And from what I hear, the AP isn't even typically as accurate or reliable as a 3135 driven Sub.

I had long thought the ROO diver would be my next watch, I tried one on a few months ago, it seemed fragile, clunky and frankly, the waffle pattern dial looked almost plastic-y and cheap. I was really disappointed, and that's not even considering the watch might be less accurate and/or less robust/reliable than my far cheaper Sub C.

I wanted to like the AP, but now I'm wondering if getting it would be almost just so I can feel like I have a very high end (expensive) watch, that offers ironically less in function, and reliability than my trusty Sub C. I'm all for style and elegance, but not at the expense of function.

My AP's keep perfect time and within a second a day just like my Rolex. I don't have a Diver though and can't speak to it. I can say that my AP's are top shelf and the finish and quality amazing. Not sure why Rolex price increase equates to AP dissing...To each his own and I own them all and appreciate great watches from great watch houses.

I apologize for coming across as dissing, I respect AP, and as I said I kind of always wanted the Diver, was just a bit underwhelmed when I finally got to play with one in person.

The accuracy thing is just something I've heard from people but I guess it's inappropriate to judge based on that. I'm glad your AP's are accurate and perhaps I can still try an AP diver one day, there's still a lot I like about it.

Rolex price increases are never fun. However, the constant increase in prices keeps the value of the brand up and all those Rolex watches you already own are just going up in value as well. We have to remember that Rolex holds its value very well over time, which we all like. I believe this is attributed to the constant price increases and Rolex still being a good value for the price.
