One store two sections two experiences

So I got out of work early today and stopped in Tourneau (NYC) 53rd st today. If you have been there you know the store is broken up into two stores, one a Rolex store and a store for all other brands. Two stores two experiences.

1) Non Rolex store. I was looking at a few watches but basically went in to try on the Zenith Striking 10th. The salesperson Johnny a older Asian gentleman was wearing a Tudor Sub from the mid 70s, and commented on my 16610LV. I complimented him on his Tudor, turns out his father gave it to him, he took it off and let handed it to me to check out. He said he had a collection of Rolex among IWC, he truly knew a lot about watches and was a enthusiast. He showed me a few watches, no pressure and even let me try on a Patek that was way out of my range. Great experience and wonderful guy.

2) Rolex store. I was looking around and noticed the new explorer. I tried it on and noticed the price of 8K+. She saw me look and said that is a very good price for a very nice piece, I said wasn't it about 7.5K yesterday? She said ok right there was a price increase, 7.5k we can do that. She also commented on my Rolex but the comment was more like oh nice 50th anniv, not the ceramic one right. I guess she was doing her job but sales tactics were interesting. Next I was just looking in a case and overheard another sales person talking to a guy trying on a 14060M. He apparently was told about the price increase as well, he said "what was the price increase on this one" several sales people were discussing amongst themselves and I said to him there is no increase it was discontinued. They shortly came back and confirmed it. Regardless they wanted 6.4k, what a deal.

Maybe I just got lucky with Jimmy on the one side, but the sales tactics on the Rolex side had an air of arrogance. Not a horrible experience but you know, its not like buying from trusted sellers on here.

But was it Johnny or Jimmy? :)

I've had a Mayors sales ass. (that's short for associate :) ) ask if my Sub is the new one. I suppose if I were a smart-ass ociate, I'd say: You can't tell?

Not unusual I think, different people different experiences. I've been there a few times, big selection, but I didn't necessarily like the way they sell watches there. However considering the foot traffic they get I can understand why it's like it is.

Had the same experience there. Downstairs, lots of fun, enthusiast environment. Going upstairs to check out the Rolex collection made me want to leave the store immediately. Just too much nonsense.

I agree too much nonsense. For one we are buying a watch, two it's not that exclusive it not like we are buying a trip to the moon. I hate the phony exclusivity that is perpetuated. I like the watches for what they are not because everyone cannot afford one. That is how if feel certain sellers portray that allure like I'm special bla bla bla when in fact im just some guy buying a watch. Sorry for the rant I'm just not an arrogant guy and I don't like the Rolex treatment by certain sellers.

Not a good deal when davidsw or another seller has it for about 7k or less IMHO.

Sounds like you were just playing games at the AD. Tourneau gave you the old price but that wasn't good enough.
Expecting an AD to have grey market pricing is unreasonable.

So it's confirmed that the 14060M did not go up in price?
