Explorer II 16570 Price Increase
Saw something interesting on a well known internet grey dealer's website yesterday. For at least the last few weeks they were showing a new 16570 at the price of $6,135. A week ago I emailed to ask what the series is. Just yesterday I finally got a response that it was an "M". I responded, pointing out that the watch was therefore produced about 2007 making it around 5 years old. (Yeah, I know the series does not definitively pinpoint the year of actual production but......we all do pay attention to the series and price our Rolexes accordingly) I went on to share my opinion that the watch was therefore way overpriced and that I had recently seen much better deals for V series and even a G series, both of which were BNIB (TRF). And here's the really interesting part, the website is now showing the following for the price:
List Price: $6,325 Our Price: $6,515 Wire Price: $6,320 So now all of a sudden, these "guys" are selling their 16570s at a premium, even the NOS. The response I got was that the watch could not be 5 years old because it came with a plastic warranty card and Rolex was not using plastic in 2007. A little research on my part revealed that Rolex did indeed start using plastic in 2007 (on most models) and went to plastic on all models in 2008. I pointed that out in my return but have had no further response. I know that doesn't mean much in this situation but it did further confirm to me this guy does not know Rolex history. |

Were you considering buying it? It sounds like you'd be better off looking elsewhere.

Lol..Swiss Luxury...I almost did business with them. I'm glad I didn't. In fact, I'm glad I paid a premium by buying from my AD.

Yep....you got it. No, was never really serious about buying from them but do take a look now and then. Seems like the best deals are almost always from TRF sellers.

In that case, why do you care? You weren't going to buy from them anyway. They don't owe you any explanations for their pricing.

X2. If you don't like any advertised price just walk away its that simple, sellers can offer any price they want too, but the buyer does not have to buy.

Absolutely did not care and was not going to buy at that price. I was just pointing out that this particular dealer very recently raised his price from below MSRP to above MSRP.....and on a NOS watch. Just thought it was interesting behavior.

Given the much higher price of the new 42mm ExpII combined with the MSRP increase it's not surprising that NOS of the old size is now more valuable.

You can find mint 16570s here below $5K, some with the 3186! Best to wait and find one in the sales forum or contact the trusted sellers directly.

Ron, not sure if you are truly in the market for the 16570 but if you are I recently purchased that model (Polar) BNIB my name on the warranty card for much less. Cannot beat DavidSW.

Thanks. I'm not currently in the market but am just browsing and comparing. I do hope to have one within a year or less. Yes, I have seen some pretty good offers right here on TRF that certainly beat Swiss Luxury and others.

Just for grins, I just rechecked the Swiss Luxury website and the prices have changed (dropped) since yesterday. As copied from their website today:
Rolex Watches - Explorer Explorer II Style No: 16570 w Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II Watches. 40mm stainless steel case, 24 hour bezel and hand, independent 12 hour hand, white dial, and Oysterlock bracelet. List Price: $6,325.00 Our Price: $6,355.00 Wire Price: $6,164.00) Yesterday, as I originally noted, they showed: Our Price: $6,515 Wire Price: $6,320 OK.....have beat this dead horse enough and am moving on......... |

You can literally drive yourself crazy with this sort of thing. I don't blame them for pricing as they did. They want a reasonable offer from a serious buyer. Not great negotiating to start from anything less than new AD price. It only takes one moron to write a cheque. Keep this in mind. Harry
