Changing date/time on datejust oyster perpetual?

Hey,

Quick question, are you suppose to pull the knob out in order to change the time/date on the watch? Reason I ask is because when i try turning the knob, its too stiff and doesn't turn...i know its a stupid question but i dont want to break the watch:)

Remember that Rolex Oysters have a screw-down winding crown and that it must be unscrewed (counter clockwise)- NOT "pulled" - before being able to set the time (by pulling the crown out to its farthest position).

thansk buddy..im trying to twist the winding crown counter clockwise and its so hard...its as if i'd need pliers to twist it which im afraid to use:) is this normal/

It's possible somebody screwed it down too tight and you would need a pair of pliers to get it started.

No this is not normal and if you are concerned, I would take it to a watchmaker for evaluation

ahh i think im going to break it..i got it open but it woulnt wind...how do i close the winding crown to lock it up again? i'll go to a rolex dealership and have them teach me:)..but in mean time how do i close it?

The crown should have no more pressure than that of a ball point pen when it is unscrewed..

In other words, it should have a bit of movement against the spring so you could push it gently against the case tube, engage the threads and easily and smoothly screw it back down.

If this isn't happening, something has jammed inside and you should not force it..

the winding isnt working so im going to go to a watchmaker as you said:)

That sounds odd!

As Larry says, better take it to your AD or nearest RSC.

Also, the crown does in fact not need to be screwed down very tightly. Just "finger tight" (like when you screw on the top of a tube of toothpaste). So screw it on until you feel a slight resistance and then STOP screwing!

In fact, if you screw on the crown VERY hard, you risk damaging the efficiency of the waterproofness in the long run.

yeah well i think im just going to go to the watchman like you guys said:)

maybe i wasnt following the directions correctly. when i twisted counterclockwise it popped out once..then i started turning it clockwise to adjust the time but the hands wrent moving? could this have caused any damage?

am i suppose to pull it out 1 more time?

the thing about 5 or 6 o clock scares me. what is the mechanism its talking about.

looking at your last two posts....

If you got it unscrewed and it popped out, that is the winding position. Nothing will move... you can't cause any damage in this position.

Yes, you need to pull it out one more detent to set the date, or all the way out to set the hands..

thanks dude..actually this weekend i went to the mall to Mayors..the lady was really rude when I asked her to adjust it for me. She said with an attitude "why whats wrong with it"? I said nothing. And then she says the watchman is out..he wont be back till Monday and wanted me to sign up for repairs. She was pretending like the watch was broken and didn'tt even try to pull the crown out..she's like its stuck..if i try to force it ..it'll break..

then I went to another watch store the sells used rolexes (not authorized) and the guy there was really cool about it and did it in 20 seconds explaining it nicely.

Its very easy..I was just paranoid that it was broken and like you said..I was trying to change time/date in the winding position :LOL:
