Genuine Pepsi insert or not ...

I received this pepsi insert with a GMT II I received in a trade. The watch is 100% genuine. I have no reason to believe the insert is not genuine but I plan to sell it so I think it's best to get expert opinions. The guy who traded it to me said it was purchased from a trusted seller and is supposed to be real.

It may be the fotos, but....

In my opinion, this bezel insert is fake.
On a genuine item there is no sharp ridge where I have arrowed, if you drag your thumbnail over and feel a ridge, I would say it is fake.

I had an aftermarket and a genuine side by side to compare, The aftermarket weighs far less than the genuine.

Also, where the colour divides the "18" the divide should be between the 1 and the 8, in this the red touches the 8

I have about a dozen bezel inserts in my parts bin and this insert is unlike any I have. Also, as dieseldragon mentioned, the "8" in 18 should be in the blue area of the painted insert and not overlapping in the red area. Also, none of mine have the middle ridge on the backside as noted in dieseldragon's photo. What is interesting though is that the number fonts look correct - unlike the "hooked "2's" on many of the aftermarket bezel inserts.

If I had to make a call on the photos alone, I'd say aftermarket. Many of these watches wear aftermarket bezel inserts - many.

and one thing I know for sure is that the color change does not have to occur between the 1 and 8 of 18. Many do, but many more do not. And I'm looking at BNIB Pepsi bezel pics on BNIB GMT II straight from the factory sold by trusted sellers (Oscar, David) on this site. So I don't think that is any indication. I felt the back of the bezel and there is no ridge but a slight color change or apparent color change as the angle changes slightly.

Maybe drster, but I looked at a dozen new inserts yesterday and over a dozen more found on my collection of GMT's and none of them had the "18" partially in blue and red.

I checked the for sale section here on TRF and noticed a couple of "new" GMT II's for sale with the red/black bezel inserts that had the "18" overlapping into the red color.

I checked ebay today and I found 7 GMT's (out of 9 pages of watches) with the same style of insert with the "18" overlapping into the red color.
Also, I found this aftermarket insert for $14 which does not have the hooked "2's" and does have the "18" overlapping into the red area. A photo of this blue/red aftermarket insert is attached below. Also included below is a photo of an aftermarket insert what depicts the "hooked 2 insert" which has an extended hook at the top of the two's. The hooked 2 inserts are the most common aftermarket inserts.

Drster, I forgot to ask in my last post but if you feel this insert is genuine, why are you asking here whether it is genuine or aftermarket? Something obviously occurred to make you question its authenticity.

and I don't want to claim it's genuine if it's not. I know it fits and looks good to me. It did come with the package that looks like other current Rolex bezel package but there is no sticker on the package to indicate part number. It could have been removed but it caused me to question.

That's pretty honorable of you. I guess you could have just ASSUMED it was genuine, but you double checked before doing so. Excellent. You are a good seller.

Now you guys have me nervous after reading this thread. I just purchased a pepse insert from a newer member on this site and paid $200. How will I know for sure? Can someone take a peek at the pepsi currently still listed that I just purchased and provide some feedback? Thanks from a new member...

It appears genuine. It seems that the newer inserts have the 18 overlapping into the red color of the insert.
